I have a strange confession. I'm obsessed with running away. Finishing up my house, selling it, finding a new metro, running away from my cubicle. It's always about what's next. I spend all of this time looking at statistics on different metros. I just wanna be where it's rather chill still, and where it's not in the bible belt. Sadly, I refuse to move back to the land of snow. Who left a overly religious demographic area for a more secular area? Did you regret it? Were you able to easily adjust the cost of living? I tend to look at cheap cities, as like I said, I'd rather have the laid back, hippy city. Anyone else dream of running away?
We all just need to pick a state to all run away to. We could shift the population to be majority atheist and create the first atheist State!
My vote is for Florida lol nice beaches and no winter
@Catwhisperer - I agree with that. I live in Panama City, and this place is City and beach. I love it here. I've ALWAYS got something to do. I will be here until I die (when I'll be someone else's problem, haha)....
well I would say come and join us here in Minnesota, but you might not like the cold and snow, but once you embrace it, you'll realize that there are lots of fun crazy people here. As far as laid back hippy city, you are bringing me back to my youth, I would say check out Eugene, Oregon, where I lived for a few years back in the early 90s
Sure. I planned on moving to Alaska for years before I retired from the navy.
You should try Austin.
Well heck.... Dont forget! it takes 40 points to get social security. Better think about the future. 20 years from now it's going to take 2 million to retire. Oh yeah i wanted to run away but i wanted to live too. Go have some fun for as long as you like but make sure you have an education. Its just going to get harder for you if you don't make that money. Easy is cool if you own the businesses.
Me too, except I want to go where there's snow.
I'd say come and live in Cambridge, UK - hardly ever snows, very secular, pretty laid-back and hippyish... but unfortunately very much not cheap!
@Jnei what happened to all the workers at the Morris factory?
Not sure there ever was one in Cambridge - there was one in Oxford, but we don't talk bout that place here.
I've looked at Oregon, Cali, Florida, Texas, Washington, and Arizona. In Arizona, it's Tucson. Texas is Austin. Florida tampa, Cali Sacramento. Oregon Salem, and Washington North of Seattle

I get it! I have been considering central America. Lower cost of living, no Tinklebelle fans, great climate.
I live on Connecticut, and have wanted to run away my whole life
Tempted to move back to the East Coast from West Michigan/Grand Rapids, as it is, I have a job in Lansing and I’m trying to get my house listed so I can at least be closer to work and in a government/university town metro. Now if I didn’t have kids, I’d probably have a greater urge on either moving east or pursuing some type of long term volunteer activity.
Never been one for running I do love to travel and do, but, I am always glad to get back to my frozen wasteland. I live in Canada'e bible belt where I prefer to stay and fight for the return to sanity rather than run from their cult influence.
At any given time there are more than 100,000 people travelling Australia on a permanent basis. The majority are self named grey nomads on pensions. When you have money you fuel up and travel. When you don't you try to make some fruit picking, buying and selling whatever your interest is in.
