Would you run a background check on a potential boyfriend or girlfriend?
Would you be uncomfortable if you learned your potential boyfriend or girlfriend ran one on you?
I think a background check , would be just that . You'd learn some specific details about , for instance arrest records , but you wouldn't learn their on going personality traits . Just something to allow you a certain amount of reassurance , that it's probably alright to get to know them better without the risk of being murdered in your sleep , having your home burned down around your ears , finding yourself in deep debt , because they ran up charges you didn't know about on your credit card ,
Yes.
No, and it's been done already to me & I've no problem with it. It was interesting to hear what the person found and what he thought. LOL
And for any of the F-TARDS who dogpiled me on the topic this was the "minds his own business" neighbor! Pffffft!
He ALSO sleuthed my girlfriend next door!
With all that I did for shits & giggles run one on myself & my late dh. There was a loooot of incorrect, jumbled information out there. If anyone knows of a particularly accurate background checker I'm all ears.
really? F-TARDS in all caps? a little hostile and angry, are you perhaps holding a grudge?
@LadyAlyxandrea Since you didn't see the thread in question, just know some things can't be unsaid. I was "splained" pretty good. It's a common thing I've noticed, even from other women....
No,during the 8 years I was in the Air Force, routine checks were done on my background, finding old neighbors and School mates to ask about my stability. When I got a job at General Dynamics/Convair,the same checks were done yet again. I worked around Nuclear weapons in the service, and several "Black" programs at General Dynamics.
Nobody can be too careful! I have nothing to hide, so check away!
I should imagine it is pretty common for people to do this nowadays. I come from an earlier generation where it was all finding out from scratch with new partners. I am sure some people must regret putting out so much personal history onto social media.....it can come back and bite!
Yes I would and nope don’t care if they check on me. Can’t be too safe in this world. Would rather at least know than find out later that he has wives on both sides of the country.. too much lifetime network in the 90s to not see that coming..
My grandfather on my father's side had 18 wives in different places, under different names. So yeah lol
@LadyAlyxandrea every time I hear of this I wonder how they do it. I would have a problem with a person I did not see on a regular basis. I guess I am just not wired that way, I have enough with just one, could not keep more straight, unless we all lived together, that would just kill me, I mean in like dead.
@dalefvictor There was a story about a well to do heart Surgeon, many years ago, who had two families,he would travel saying it was work related to seminars, and no one knew the difference, until he died, two sets of everything; Wives, kids, homes, cars, and businesses.
@Mike1947 So you do something where you make a lot of money, set up the resources for two families and them move between them. Sounds like a lot of work. I guess I am just not smart enough to make this work for me, much less than trying to keep it straight for a spouce, one or two or more.
@Mike1947 my grandfather was the owner of some huge trucking company
I ran a background check on myself . That's when I learned I was teaching a dance class in New York . I've never even lived within commuting distance of New York .
If it makes you feel any better I'm apparently an alcoholic who enjoys armani and sbarro in new york
@LadyAlyxandrea being a world traveler can get boring, getting on and off the plane, walking to the limo, having to stay in all those fancy hotels, and the food. Boring..
I do research on people sometimes. One person trying to scam me was using pics of a porn star as their own. Google helped me find out who that pic really belonged to. (There were several pics and even a Facebook page.) The scammer dropped me pretty quickly when confronted with facts. The last I heard from her/him was "maybe the porn star was scamming them." LOL
I've run into scammers , as well . Wire me money is usually a dead give away .
@Cast1es In my case the idea would be to convince me that we are both so much in love and then have me wire money so they can get here and be with me. Some people fall for this. It never works on me, and they think you are "more lonely" because you are older. I met my ex of 12 years online BTW, but I knew what I was doing.
I do some research on some people. It matters for certain reason, for some reason it is important to know if they are who they say they are. Actually running a background check may cost money and if I needed to spend money I probably would not do it. With the internet much can be learned by just paying attention to what they say.
I have a Facebook friend from Jersey and she checks out as real and legit. We have been friends over a year and often talk on the phone. I would trust anything she does or says.
Without even blinking -yes to both!
what do you have to hide!?
@starwatcher-al not a thing!
@RavenCT Just curious, then what's the problem with a check on you?
@starwatcher-al Yes to both. I'd run a check and absolutely someone could run mine. Just lack of clarity there.
I worked in a News office where CORI checks were often run and I always wondered what king of idiot can't pass a background check? Many as it turns out!
@RavenCT Gotcha, have a nice life.
Yes, I would consider doing it myself. No, I would not be offended. Especially not someone from a dating site where interactions are entirely digital. Not only would I not be offended, I would encourage it. When it comes to a significant other, someone you could be potentially investing a lot of time and emotional attachment into, better to dot the i's.
Ladies, I got a speeding ticket in 2006 or 7 and I forgot to renew my tags for a couple months once. I'm basically Al Capone.
Major leader of a crime syndicate. Speeding ticket, probably 10 in a speed trap. I have been in two accidents, apparently I have a target on the back of my car. Totaled each. People ran into me, one doing 85 in a 55, I was doing the speed limit 55. The other time I was at a stop light and was hit by a guy picking up something on the floor.
If my suspicions are raised enough to run a background check, I'm already outta there.
