You know what I don't cotton to? People who don't understand, you can criticize an action of theirs or some attitude they have that you think is wrong; and they take it as a personal attack, assuming imaginary vitriol or emotion in motivations. Sometimes, you just SAY something, and that's the way you feel towards that thing and it doesn't mean I feel you are a horrible person or whatever. Highly defensive people are almost impossible to communicate with...

... I'm starting to think a LOT of people are just hard to communicate with because they take almost everything, especially criticism as a personal attack.

... but then again. "I just don't get it..."

This is why I like dogs.

Good points. I got attacked by the friend of an old Navy buddy on FB for supporting a woman's right to control her body. Called me a baby butcher wanting to chop up his grandchildren. Uhhh, never said that, that would be wrong. I have found it is best to ignore or use their own writings against the evangelical ilk. I simply say read Mark 5, 1-7. In it, he alluded to a worse punishment for hypocrites.

I rarely take anything personally, and also rarely offer criticism. It keeps me sane and happy.

I find most people react poorly to unsolicited criticism...i do! My response generally is, "who asked You?"

A good observation. This really applies to theists in defense of their faith (belief without evidence) belief systems. They are taught to internalize their faith based belief system so exposing them to facts that contradict their fantasy-land "reality" equates to an attack on them. If you are interested, I highly recommend watching anticitizenx (youtube) He sites psychological studies and address this, and many other rather interesting points.

I agree, but I would replace the word defensive above with insecure. =]
