Compared to believers in this world, the number of Atheists and agnostics are way too small. Does it mean that these enormous number of believers have foggiest notions about the God and only a handful of Atheists and agnostics have the the right notions?

It means (among many things) the power structures promoting and supporting religion remain ..powerful. And, education is not cheap. Human culture is slowly evolving, weโ€™re nearly pioneers! With the spread of electricity and access to the internet, things should begin to change faster.. Being as the Greeks had hundreds of gods.. and weโ€™re down to one - weโ€™re headed in the right direction ๐Ÿ™‚

Truth is most believers are members of religions in the same way that people who live in a town involve themselves in the community.
They will identify with it on a causal basic, but know nothing about what is going on, do nothing, resent being asked to do anything and begrudge every minute and penny demanded from it.
However if some one insults their "tribe" or tries to shut it down, suddenly they get indignant refuse to believe true information for for it might reflect badly on themselves and will enjoy a good punch up on behalf of it to make the trouble go away.
Most Christians have never read the bible, only pray when they want something or are scared shitless, go to church maybe five times in their life for christenings, weddings and funerals, and can reciet one version or another of the Lords prayer off by heart because they learned it in school, but have no idea what it means outside of having something to do with trespassing and sliced bread.
Much is becoming the same for the majority of British born Muslims and every moderate Jew I know only claims to be culturally Jewish and otherwise agnostic or Atheist.
I assume much the same is happening to Hindus and Sheiks.
Religion is lip service if that among millennials and my own grandchildren find religion hilariously stupid as do most of their friends.
Time and the internet are killing religion, my generation may not see the the fall, but I'm waching the decline with a big grin on my face.

Believers enjoy, deeply, the sense of community/belonging and ever-present support they get from believing a powerful one is there for them 24/7/365. Atheists make a grave mistake thinking "just show them the facts & they will change"

we number about 16 percent worldwide.

however, not all of the other 84 percent are real believers. some of them are affiliated with a religion but don't think about it much. i think therefore out numbers exceed 16 percent, probably by a lot.

whatever the remainder is, they're delusional. there are no gods.

@Matias i will have to take your word for it about germany. all the atheists i know do NOT believe in anything supernatural or any afterlives. i know that may be a small sample, but it's all i know.

g

@Matias well, i am not going by polls, and we obviously don't know the same atheists ๐Ÿ™‚)

@Matias All being Atheist means is a personal lack of belief in a god or gods, other than that you may believe what ever you like and still call yourself atheist, you seem to be implying that to be an atheist as you define it requires total skepticism (which in my opinion is not bad thing) but even on a linguistic level atheist simply means "without god"
