well, facebook doesn't actually say that. some idiot who has never had to rely on food support used facebook to say that. people with $800 phones don't get food stamps. i am on food stamps. i don't even get $800 a month from social security; i sure wouldn't spend more than a month's income on a phone. there are free phones one can get from a government agency if you meet certain income and asset requirements. they're not fancy. they're barely usable. i don't have one of those because you can't get one if you have another lifeline service, and i have the lifeline button to press if i need emergency medical help (i have medical issues). so i can't get a free phone. i am not the only person in my position. but it's easy to make fun of people who need help and portray them as cheaters, as lazy, as too stupid not to spend what little money they have on an expensive phone or as dishonest enough to get food stamps if they don't really need them. it's the perpetuation of reagan's "welfare queen" lie and as such it's NOT FUNNY (and certainly not true).
