Why not? Sometimes some people only wish to mingle in smaller groups that may be considered private, plus that could be a good way to curb trolling. You could always start a group that's open if the closed ones concern you. To each his her own though...

I don't think it has to do with someone wants to be agreed with all the time. It has more to do with people that have similar interests. Take this site for example. If you are a Catholic, and you sign up, you're probably a troll, maybe just an inquisitive well-meaning troll. I have two groups on here. One is Guitars Only. The other is The Computer & Electronic Group. Both are designed for people to talk about topics they want to, and both encourge others to help people when they have a problem. On the guitar group, I'm not a Fender fan, but if someone needs help tuning (or whatever) someone will probably help. Same goes with the computer group. I started that specifically to help others. Computer repair is not cheap. If it's something easy to fix that someone else dealt with, they bashed their head against the wall for a long time to figure it out... might be able to tell someone how to fix it in 30 seconds. For example with the computer group, you are far more likely to get replies on a group that specializes in that that in the General and Hellos forum. I'm not going to go and ask an Electrician group if I'm having problems with my toilet.

Well the thing is we aussies got tired of having to explain 'we were only joking' so that's our excuse. I can't answer for the hundreds of other groups

I'm deeply insecure and need lots of hugs and little endorphine bursts from likes. I'm ok with that.
