What TV shows are you currently watching? I am always looking to expand my Netflix/Hulu queue
I enjoy a wide variety of different shows, but am currently watching:
Halt and Catch Fire -- show based on the 1980s about the rise of personal computers ... oh it's so good ... the character acting and story-telling hooked me right away...
Godless -- a limited series on Netflix about this mining town that has only women due to a mining accident that killed the majority of its men ... It's deep, dark, tons of human elements ... I can only watch an episode at a time and then I have to go watch something light-hearted remind myself there is good in the world ... but I love this genre ... one of my favorites
The Path -- a series on Hulu that is about a religious cult, how the leaders are corrupt, how one of its members starts to have doubts... It has Hugh Dancy and Aaron Paul, two of my favorite TV actors.
Ok..TWD and FTWD..Blacklist..Falling Water..on Netflixs it's Helix, Stranger Things, Sense8, Unabomber, Godless and a few other on PBS..like Nova,Nature,Sherlock, Victoria.
The Blacklist is really good. I joked to someone that I'd watch James Spader eat a sandwich because that's how great an actor he is, and then I remembered that he actually was eating a sandwich in one episode. Ha! I also like Stranger Things, but I liked the first season better than the second.
In general order of preference; Westworld (far superior to its feature film ancestors), Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Black Mirror (very quirky and cool), Daredevil, Luke Cage, Agents of Shield (yeah, I'm kind of a Marvel goober). There are more, just can't think of them ATM. I've barely started Stranger Things and have heard good things about it. Tried watching Lost a few times, but although I love JJ Abrams stuff, that show isn't doing it for me. I'm curious about the new Star Trek series, Discovery, but not willing to pay CBS for it.
I found mindhunter was very interesting! I found stranger things entertaining.
Loved Mindhunter! I was going to put it on my list but couldn't remember the name. Fun fact. BTK worked at the city building right across the street from where my parents lived. He was animal control and came to my parents door to tell them they couldn't let their toy poodle out in the front yard without a leash.
I skip around a lot, and some of my favorite shows are between seasons right now. I like Rick and Morty, BoJack Horseman, Archer, Black Mirror, Stranger Things, Shannara. Don't bother with The OA. I thought I'd like it, and it has an interesting premise, but the first season got weaker and weaker as it progressed.
@evestrat You were more forgiving of the meandering storyline than I was, it sounds, which may be why you were angrier about the last episode than I felt. By that time I had already given up hope for a satisfactory season finale. I think for me there's a big problem in the storytelling, where it starts out as mystery and then that would be fine except it's just more mystery heaped on the pile without anything being explained. Without giving anything away, for anyone who happens to be reading this who hasn't seen the show, it just feels like every character (including the main character) simultaneously has no idea what's going on but somehow knows exactly what to do. I think a/the problem is that the show is written, directed, and started in by the same person. That might work in some cases, but it seems in this case to have driven the show off a cliff of self indulgence with nobody to say, "We've got to tighten up the plot and, y'know, not have such a stupid season finale." I still have it queued up on Netflix, but whether I'll watch the second season is debatable. There's always the possibility that they've (she's) learned from S1 and taken the criticism to heart, but I'm not holding my breath.
@evestrat sunk cost is definitely part of my rationale with the show. My dissatisfaction was gradual, though, so Midway through the season I was still hopeful. By the last few episodes I wasn't expecting a turnaround. I just powered through hoping for the best and getting more mediocrity instead.
All of the ones you mentioned are on my list. On Netflix Travelers is very good. There's an interesting twist on the whole time travel trope. The Badlands, if you have any interest in post apocalyptic, marshal arts infused, feudalism. Black Mirror of course. I'm just starting the newest season. The episode I just watched was a very trippy take on a dating service of the future that promises to match you with your true love.
Def Badlands..I l9ved the Baron..
My call for breakout show of the year is "The Chi" on Showtime. It's still in its first season and pretty amazing. You must see "The Hand Maid's Tale." If you fear the consequences of untethered religion -this is a must see. Breaking Bad is probably what I would consider to be the best show of all time- but it ended a decade ago. Better Call Saul is it's predecessor and worth seeing. Ozark fills the void it left. Others that are great: Westworld, Game of Thrones, Transparent, American Horror Story, Orange is the New Black, Wentworth... I'm currently getting my dating advice from 90 Day Fiance.
Just a couple lol
Gotham, American Gods, Game of Thrones, The Punisher, The Deuce, Ozark, The Handmaid's Tale, Brockmire, Crashing, How to Get Away With Murder, Black Mirror, Luke Cage, Stranger Things, Ray Donovan, American Horror Story, Fear The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead, Orange is the New Black, and House of Cards.
My absolute favorite show has been Westworld.
I was watching Vice Prinicpals and Sense8 too, but those have had short lives and got canceled. I was also watching Peaky Blinders, but after 3 seasons it seems I have lost interest.
@evestrat They have a movie too. I heard a rumor that someone or some company was willing to fund them to continue the show. I forgot who. They changed the actor who plays the African character though. I preferred the original. I will watch anything by the Wachowskis.
@evestrat It was actually a 2 hour Christmas special. They are also having a 2 hour series finale this year.
@evestrat The Handmaid's Tale took me a few episodes to warm up to, but it grew on me.
Game of Thrones, and I recently finished the new Season of Black Mirror. There are a ton of shows in my queue that I plan to get to eventually.
My favorite shows are those, The Walking Dead, the new Cosmos, Arrow, Nikita, Family Guy, Stranger Things, Heroes, and Awake.
Heroes is in my top 5 all-time. (The other 4 being Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Friends, and Desperate Housewives.)
Oh yeah, I forgot about Breaking Bad. I like it as well.
My favorite current shows are Better Call Saul, Black Mirror, and Modern Family.
@evestrat Uugh, I know. 10 episodes a year is just not enough.
I loved Godless! Very good show. I also love Grace and Frankie, Longmire, Gilmore Girls. I’ve also started Black Mirror and its very interesting.
Have you watched
The End of the F***ing World ?
Star Trek the complete original series. I forgot (and am no longer 12) what a wealth of social questions the series posed. Spock logic is always the highlight for me ( along with all the cool 60s/psychedelic cinematography)
Hmmm.... the Good Doctor. Tbs, Showtime, BBC, sci-fi, abc, NBC, CBS.
I turned off cable about 2 years ago. I stream on Roku. I don't watch much on TV, when I do it is usually movies, or Downton Abby, or reruns of old favorite series. Friends is my current series.
I gave up Netflix and use Amazon & Hulu. Plus some of the free streaming channels. Last week I was talking with an unintentional Luddite and telling him that with Roku he could get 3000+ channels. Animated conversation followed. When I said there are 1548 streaming religious channels he laughed and said... "I believe that! So you're not exaggerating."
I don't even know what series or movies to watch because since the pandemic started, I have been browsing the internet and watching everything that could be seen. If you want me to suggest some series that will keep you in suspense, you can watch Breaking Bad, Hunger Games, or the famous Lucifer. You can check out on [tvcancelrenew.com], which of them are still available now because many of the movies have been cancelled.
