I've been binge watching a lot of debates of late, and have been disappointed by the logical integrity of most theists. I was surprised that some even bothered to allow theists to come to the table with presuppositions that tainted the debate. So, with all that said, this discussion among three panelists (including Christopher Hitchens) is the best I have ever watched so far. It's civil, and many insights are enlightening. There's moments of knee-slapping humour I've never seen in such a debate scenario. Very well worth the watch.
Thanks for posting this video, very impressed with Hitchens. (still have a bit to go).
Christopher Hitchens is one of my all time favorites. I've seen this one and you're right, it's one of the best.
For any caught between the pull of religion vs not, perhaps this is relevant. Though it may not always appear so, I find my time too valuable to waste listening to two religious apologists in order to occasionally hear the words of reason from a rational third.. If, as they’re generally not, such debates were between two people, where I could more easily skip ahead to the rational one, I’d be more inclined to watch, and have. In this case, I tried.. but couldn't ~
If you just like hearing the rational take downs, YouTube "Atheist Hitchslaps" and you will not likely be disappointed. Hitchens is eloquent and firm and knows his stuff.
I know how you feel, theists always boil down to the same handful of logical fallacies that you could make a BINGO card out of it. I still like listening to them to see what the Atheist usually has to say and how they'll shut down the theist. I've just got less patience for the apologetic now because they just throw out endless rhetoric to try and sound smart instead of being concise with what they have to say.
I remember feeling utter mentally exhausted from frustration after listening to Matt Dillahunty and Matt Slick debate. Slick is just one of the worst, and when they start throwing out solipsism I'd just call for the end of the debate because there is no use in continuing once somebody throws out that debate roadblock.
TOTALLY - I watched that one... what an idiot... reducing the brain to chemical reactions that cannot (on its own) arrive at logical conclusions. Sam Harris would have demolished him in 2 seconds; I don't know why Dillahunty didn't.
I think I've watched all of Christopher Hitchens' debates. There will never be another Hitch. I love listening to him.
