Man switching over to working nights is rough. I feel like I could sleep all the time now.

I did twelve hour nights (7P-7A) for years as an RN. I didn’t have the benefit of sleep most of the time. I had young children at home. Financially it was a huge and I got used to it after a while. The hard part is when you stop working nights. It probably took me a year to readjust.

Yeah I've heard the transition back is killer

About 14 years ago I took a job where I had to be at work at 3am but also tried to maintain my social schedule by taking naps and going to bed at 11pm.

Had 42 tardies the first 6 months. I should have been fired but my work performance was good enough to retain but I received no raise in 2 years until I finally gave up trying to get by on naps.

Blackout curtains and pull down shades will be your friends

Yeah I've got the blackout curtains but my dreams keep me tossing and turning so I haven't really gotten any restfull sleep. I normally don't dream by the way and it's only been a thing the past 2 weeks.

Don't let it fool you. I loved working nights, but getting enough sleep was difficult.

I do like that I don't have to deal with a lot of people on the night shift lol

@Ben13
The bosses are safely tucked in bed, and when you get off work, shops are mostly empty.

@Holysocks I'm off by 0600 in bed by 0630 and then up again by 1300

@Ben13
You don't get used to it, but it has it's uses.

When I was in my 20's,in the Air Force in Thailand,we worked 12 hour shifts,every 6 months,the shifts rotated,to do so it was an 18 hour day,in the heat and humidity over there. Walking zombies we were,catching cat naps between working on equipment or aircraft. Noon to midnite and midnite til noon.

Yeah I've done the 12 or 24 hour guard shifts with the military before but for some reason day in and day out it starts really messing with your head lol

@Ben13 Your internal body clock,get's scrambled,much like long distance travelers,pacing the Sun,we need a certain amount of Sunlight and darkness to be stable.
