Most people are mindless consumers who never take a moment to consider how they are destroying the environment, killing off whole species of our fellow beings, and paying others to enslave, torture, and murder non-human animals. The true hell is what humans do to our animal brothers and sisters.
Mankind will never know peace as long as the continue to murder those beings who are at their mercy.
Really, that's all I'm trying to accomplish..
A foundation to the traditional Native American culture is: You do not own the world, you borrow it from your children. It is your moral responsibility to leave the world a good place for your children.
@NoMagicCookie it is...
@Charlene about thirty years ago when I was a teacher on a reservation there was a long series of presenters. (based on my decade there talking with with many native elders and another 20 years talking with native elders at my current job, Those presenters did a very good job accurately representing traditional values. There was a small group of young men (late 20's) who began their talks with, "We are going to tell you what our grandparents told us": the above is paraphrased from those talks. Other points were, you are human, a human is a brother to your fellow man (person), you must respect all on earth including yourself, if you do something wrong, as a human, it is your responsibility to make it correct. The earth is a good place, you are a good member of the earth. . . .
Sadly, most reservations have been polluted by Abrahamic theists The noted "presenters" for fair time constraints were followed or preceded by what I consider damaged old Catholic boarding school victims. When they were little girls, the US government/Catholic church removed them from their homes and indoctrinated them. They presented: Because an evil woman suduced a man into eating an apply, you are evil. The earth is evil. You will do bad things but that's OK because the Devil lives on earth and controls what you do. All you have to do is come to the church and beg Jesus for forgiveness so you don't burn forever in hell.
@NoMagicCookie thank you for that bit of the presenters..it's enlightening to know.
@Charlene That background information also gives you a better understanding of the Dakota Pipeline Protests. Long story. . .
@NoMagicCookie I followed the Protests..daily.
@Charlene I am impressed. Many of my students spent much time on the lines. Rather the camp.
