MOST atheist try to use reason and logic when debating a religious person. However when an atheist is challenged, logic and reason go out the door. Critical thinking skills break down and responses are high on emotions due to being offended. In my opinion some atheist suffer from a
superiority complex and don't like being told there's more to an issue than the they may know.
Ohferpetessake...either you are a troll, or you need Much better friends. I vote for #1......
Okay you're an obvious troll, trying to seed poison and wind people up. Your posts make no sense, are ill informed and read like cheap ignorant anti-atheist propaganda.
You know nothing about atheists or atheism and quite frankly you are boring.
SO prove me wrong, write something interesting, back up your contention with some fact and evidence or runnaway home and play with your wine and wafers.
I'm confused as to why you've now posted two of these types of threads.
People in general get emotional during an argument which literally limits a person's ability to think rationally, with the exception of a few of us who just aren't built that way.
Over all though, an atheist doesn't have to defend themselves using anything but that they just simply do not believe.
Also, there are those who suffer a superiority complex in every group, not just atheist... This post is weird and feels out of place here.
I am making a comment specifically about atheist. This is not about defending religious beliefs if thats what you mean. We claim to be reasonable, logical, researchers and critical thinkers but these skills stop here when to comes to arguing religion. How do you feel about GMOs and vaccinations? ( Not that I'm starting a new argument.) These are also passionate topics. Reasoning, logic, researching and critical thinking should also apply here but instead of being constructive in arguments and using the sames skills they used to debate the religious, they sometimes become emotional in their arguments and use things like anecdotes and name calling. In my opinion critical thinking etc should be a way of life. When challenged, atheist should be able to exercise those skills and welcome new knowledge instead of being a douche. Isn't this how some atheist "became" atheist in the first place, by having their belief system challenged? Because of my own mindset I assumed other atheist will be this way which is my mistake. As someone said to me before not all atheists think alike.
@bluefairy And what you call, " not arguing properly....according to Your rules" might just be people trying to present facts and you deflecting? Ever think of that?
@bluefairy you've missed my point. The point of my response to your post was that your post doesn't make sense. You claim that most atheists have an emotional response to an argument and I've explained that most people on the planet have an emotional response to an argument... So by default, your post applies to every group of people. You should be discussing why people are unable to reason during an argument, which I could explain if you'd like.
If you'd like to start a discussion about GMOs or vaccines I'm reasonably informed about GMOs and very informed about vaccines.
really? generalizations are tricky, aren't they? because i have not found that atheists suffer from a superiority complex. i find that MOST humans don't like being told there's more to an issue than they may know; i have not found that this is either specific to atheists or more prevalent in atheists. in fact i have found the opposite to be true.
g
I said some. When in discussions with some atheist about their choice or religion and you start rising a point that they were not expose to, the superiority complex shows because they've reached a point where they think they know everything about atheism. I made a post about some brainwashed atheists. Some of the commenters are through the roof and I'm sure you'll get defensive of it too. They presumed that I "called them brainwashed" first of all I never said they were brainwashed. I said SOME atheist are brainwashed. After reading their comments it all boiled down to them never meeting or hearing of a brainwashed atheists. This is fine if you never heard or met one before but these ppl do exist. At that point they should accept this new knowledge and add it to their book of wisdom Instead of getting defensive because they assume I'm referring directly to them.
@bluefairy
Logic? Ok.
Some people are assholes.
Assholes have different points of view.
Some assholes have a different point of view than yours.
This doesn't mean you are right and they are wrong.
Sometimes assholes and I agree. That doesn't (on that basis alone) make me an asshole...
So, what is your point? That there are asshole atheists? Really? I had no idea.
@KenChang it's just me being nieve to believe that a group of minorities who are condemned, discriminated against, ostracised, oppressed etc would have the humanity to be considerate to other ppl and understand how to use the same skills that "made" them atheist in other aspects of their lives.
@bluefairy Do you have any sense of irony? You have just done what you criticized "some" atheists for doing. There are so many levels of response, I don't know where to start from.
But. 1) I don't see atheists as victims that you described. The faithful are more interested in persecuting each other. And 2), if atheists are indeed victims, you expect them to be nice for having been oppressed? Can you hear what you are saying? Is that a moral or psychological pronouncement?
@KenChang wait??? You asked my point, I stated my point and you chastised me for it? Bruhhhhh????? You're right there are asshole atheist even without even being victimised.
@bluefairy Ok. You have a point. I did ask for it. I too can be an asshole. I apologize for it. There was no need.
