I'm not quite sure what to say here. I've been in my new job (which I really like) for 2 months now. It's in a restaurant (bar and a little waiting-on) BUT we are staging a psychic night soon and I really can't stand the whole idea of it. I THINK I'm going to say something like, 'It's not my thing' to keep the peace in a job I like and need. I'm not really asking for advice, just getting this irksome thing off my chest. Maybe if there's anything in psychic power they will know what I'm thinking anyway (I know there's a lot more to the idea but I can't help trying to make a little fun of it).
interesting. any clue what they plan to do? there are intuitive people in the world and their intuition is often mistaken for/labeled psychic ability. but no matter how intuitive someone is, s/he can't communicate with the dead because they're dead, ya know? so i'd be curious as to what the psychic night consisted of. if it's all seance-y, yeah, bogus, silly, but maybe amusing, like a game of dungeons and dragons (theoretically no one actually BELIEVES in the game but it's fun for those who like it, right?) if it's people trying to read each other's minds, then it may be more amusing because it's really about how well y'all know each other. for me it really would depend on whether it was serious and believed or just done for fun. i don't mind fiction as fun.

We have to keep quiet about a lot of things when it comes to our work. It’s a bunch of nonsense, just do your job to the best of your ability that’s all you need to do.
Most people get that it’s about entertainment and don’t take it seriously anyway.
I love em. They are soooo much fun. All complete bollox of course but its a giggle. I actually genuinely believed Colin Fry (uk medium) really believed in what he did. He was a kindly man who did a lot for charity and believed he was offering comfort. Some of his readings were scarily accurate. In mental health care we talk about therapeutic lying which is skirting the truth with someone who won't recognise reality, such as someone with dementia. In a way medium's reading are therapeutic lying. However they are lies and can potentially cause damage.
I keep religion and politics out of any discussion with my students. It's none of my business what they believe and until they want to discuss it, I keep my opinions to myself.
