Drinking alcohol to get drunk is just drinking poison in the right dose to mess you up but not kill you

Yeah, good isn't it 🙂

I drink alcohol because I like it, a nice crisp pinot grigio in particular. Sometimes I get drunk, or at least a bit tipsy. Maybe it will kill me, but I'll tell you something, if it doesn't, something else will. And I'll be just as dead. Soooo, I think I'll continue doing it. Cheers!

Besides that, it has many subtle effects that only become apparent after one stops for months. The fleshy, pallid appearance and slow wit of "social" drinkers is a hidden disease in its own right.

And your point?

I’m going through periods of enjoying not drinking at all at the moment... I think my last drink was a couple of weeks ago, a couple of glasses of a really nice French Pomerol that I shared with my father to celebrate the Red Sox’ World Series win.

A night of drinking to excess can be a good time; I've enjoyed my share of them. Getting faced once in a while isn't a problem on party nights: NYE, Superbowl, Bachelor parties, etc... It's when you do it all the time that it becomes an issue.

I do it and enjoy it. Probably more than I need to but I am giving myself a little leeway until I get everything figured out.

Drinking to figure things out is like burying one's head in sand to view sunrise. Imho of course.

@CallMeDave I do the drinking to stop thinking. Weed works too but drinking is more social

I like a drink or three but if I want to get messed up, I have a toke.

No worry, guilt or hangover.

this is not true for everyone or in every instance, but it very often is true. i personally do not like the feeling of drunkenness (and i have diabetes anyway so drinking would be off limits even if i enjoyed it), but some do. if they like it beyond reason, and drink regularly and/or harm themselves or others, then your statement is true for them, but if they do it once a year, do not get drunk enough to feel ill or have a hangover but do have a pleasant drunken feeling, then how are they messed up? everything in moderation (if at all) even excess can be okay in moderation!

I wouldn't say it's purpose is to mess you up even if it can do that. I go along with the Biblical idea that the purpose of alcohol is' to make the heart of mortal man rejoice'.

Hey well if it is in the Bible, enough said!

@CallMeDave That's the spirit ...oops!
