I ran across this post from 2012. I still think it has merit.
I think we should consider implementing 'voter exams' whereby citizens must pass a basic test (akin to the drivers license test) to demonstrate a fundamental knowledge of our political system, economics, history, and the candidates and their respective records and platforms. Ignorant people who are uninformed should not be able to vote in elections about which they know little or nothing. Too much is riding on it.
Wow, really surprised by the number of people who seem to be okay with allowing completely uninformed, easily manipulated idiots decide their fate, and the fate of the country. Staggering. Absolutely staggering.
Can someone please explain how allowing uninformed idiots with no knowledge of what they are doing to vote for our fate is such a good idea? Anyone? Defend it with logic and reason, too. Something that actually makes sense.
If we ran businesses this way, we would be out of business very quickly. So why run a country this way?
ROFLMAO at YOU requesting others use logic and reason lol
You mean like the literacy tests the south conducted pre-civil rights era?
Yeah, NO.
No, I mean like tests to prove you actually know what you're voting for. Maybe you're okay with total idiots voting for whomever they're told to, or think looks better, or has been manipulated into believing, but me? I would rather have the fate of my country decided by those who have actually bothered to learn what's at stake, and how.
Maybe you would like unprepared, unskilled idiots driving, too? Why stop there? Let's let anyone practice law, medicine, or fly airplanes.
@Piratefish Straw man
A vote however misguided is nowhere near as dangerous as being behind the wheel of a 2 ton hunk of metal flying down the road. Or a several ton flying tube.
Your argument is without merit if you must resort to ridiculous analogies that have nothing to do with voting.
@Lucy_Fehr You obviously have not read much history or paid attention to the political landscape.
Why do you want ignorant morons deciding your fate? It makes zero sense. Maybe you're okay with rule by the uninformed, uneducated, mindless idiots, but many of us are not.
Letting idiots vote is every bit as dangerous as letting untested people behind the wheel of cars. If you think elected officials cannot be dangerous, you are pretty ignorant of history. Besides, if I had a dollar for every unlicensed driver right now, I could retire several years early.
Please explain why you think it's such a great idea for the uninformed and ignorant to vote for our leaders? Enlighten all of us as to why this is such a brilliant idea, and how it can possibly turn out for the good of us all?
Maybe we should also install unqualified teachers and scientists. The effect would be about the same. Or maybe you would prefer an unqualified attorney representing you? Not me. Not most sane people.
@Piratefish And still more straw men from you.
I stated in my first response how I felt about your OP. It was extremely clear and requires no further explanation. If you fail to grasp it's meaning, perhaps you should work on reading comprehension,
Each successive post of yours is more ridiculous than the last.
Please learn how to debate a topic logically without resorting to repeated logical fallacies.
An earlier comment on a similar subject:
Elitism is ugly, disgusting and undemocratic.
So is manipulating total idiots and hijacking the vote.
@Piratefish That being the case, your efforts would be more productively expended towards reforming campaigning methods and financing.
@PBuck0145 No, because uninformed idiots would still vote. Why are you so okay with this? Do yu like having your fate, and the fate of the nation, resting in the hands of people who vote on who they think looks better, sounds better, or tells the best lies?
Worst. Idea. Ever.
I am highly suspect of anyone who thinks letting idiots vote is a good idea. I really have to question their motives. Maybe we should put the most popular people in charge of science and medicine, too? Or let complete morons decide who should be fixing your car or building your house?
I also fail to see how expecting people to know what is at stake is elitism. Please explain that one.
@Piratefish Keep digging your hole. You are making the case that elitism is ugly and disgusting.
