Anyone living outside the bible belt thinking about driving here should be aware of a few things concerning driving edict. #1). Brake lights are considered turn signals. #2). At night; High-Beams on your headlights are to be on at all times regardless of oncoming traffic. #3).When you approach an intersection w/out traffic lights, & another vehicle reaches the stop sign(s) before you do, they may refuse to proceed through until you make eye contact and wave to them. Being a southern atheist sucks! Notice I didn't even mention the religious perils yet.
I live in the Bible Belt and I don't see any of these things here. There are instances where someone doesn't use their signals or leaves their high beams on, but it's not that common. The same with a 4 way stop. Some don't seem to know when to go, but most do.
I live in the bible belt and what is described here has nothing to do with religion nor does it mirror the experiences I've had. People use their directional lights, they shut off their high beams when you give them a quick flash of yours and the first to arrive at the stop sign is the first to move forward. I've not experienced anything different here than I in other states. Sure there are people in the North and South that don't follow the rules but I highly doubt it's because of their religion or lack thereof - they're just terrible drivers.
Visiting my mother after she moved to Florida, I felt frustrated with senior citizens whose driver's license should be revoked. They:
And irritated me. In Florida, I drove 30 extra miles to a freeway where I could pass people.
Peril 1) brake lights = turn signals happens on the West Coast too. I just wish I wasn't an atheist, and believed in supernatural phenomena. I would keep a crystal ball on my dashboard as the other drivers are obviously expecting me to know the future - a pity I can't rise to the ocassion. Sigh.
