I'd say that atheist's thank themselves and their family members who support them and accept them.

My family has always just gone around the table and each person says what they're thankful for. Although my father was raised Lutheran and my mother Baptist/Catholic, they never imposed religion on the holidays-not even Christmas. In my family, holidays are about family, not faith.

I prefer the word "appreciate". I can appreciate good food and good company without invoking the idea that some greater power is responsible for what I appreciate. It just means I'm happy to have something.

I see nothing wrong with being thankful for the lives that we consume. I never thank made up deities or demons. I revere all life but I am going to consume life -- we all do. (not raw -- like my food cooked)

Yes, I thank all the generations before me who worked hard and followed their dreams and interests, and all the people around me who do what they do to participate in the world in whatever positive way they see fit, to allow us to have the the lifestyle we choose or earn for ourselves.

All the people in my past who affected my life in big and little ways, positively and negatively, I feel it's my job to learn from them and perpetuate the good, and avoid the bad going forward, hopefully setting a good example for my loved ones to follow (or to ignore) and keeping toward a course of gradual improvement in the quality of life of the future.

Nobody close to me expects thanks. They know how I feel.

The same as anyone else neing as it had nothing to do with any religions

I was extremely thankful for the food left on the front of my car while I slept. I was thankful for truck drivers using their mileage to buy me a shower. I was thankful for everyone that offered a ride when I didn't need one. I am still thankful for them, and will never forget them.

Thanksgiving isn't a religious holiday.
