Because, of course town councillors have nothing better to do than decide on what sex a mythical figure should be.
In a later council vote, they agreed to check the baby Jesus' genitals in the town's nativity scene to ensure the doll was an anomically correct male.
[OK - that last line is a joke, but the news story isn't]
