GHW Bush is dead, at 94.
Meh.
No great loss. As a former president he didn't really do much. He hasn't really done much since leaving office other than collect large fees for speaking. He hasn't doen anythign with his Points of Light foundation since a few years after he left office.
Now, if Jimmy Carter pased on, he would be missed! After leaving office Jimmy Carter has kept busy using his status to try to make the world a better place. Since leaving office he has negotiated peace agreements, and when he was no longer asked to do that he has worked tirelessly for Habitat for Humanity building homes, even when he was fighting off cancer.
Even buried in his freshly dug grave, I'd choose him in a heartbeat over what we have in the Oval Office today.
RIP, George HW. You were at least a far better president than your kid was, and probably the last Republican politician with even a smattering of common decency.
Looking for decent things to say is kind.
Good riddance the world has one less war criminal to jail
My sentiments as well. The newly departed are often glorified in their passing. Good things remembered and negative things overlooked. The skill of life is not knowing how to play the winning hand he was delt. The skill is drawing a poor hand and playing it well.
I couldn't have said it any better myself.
By comparison with the other Republican presidents in my lifetime (an admittedly low bar as far as I'm concerned), he did the least damage. He signed an income tax increase in violation of his own campaign rhetoric and took the heat for it from his far-right wing. He took us into a war to repel a genuine aggression in violation of international law, and then stopped before we could replace Iraq's government and become involved in a nation-building exercise.
He stepped firmly on his dong when he encouraged the Kurds to rebel, and then, because of political calculations (we still needed a counterweight against Iran, even a weakened one) did nothing to stop Saddam slaughtering them and burying them in mass graves- the very graves his son's administration used as retroactive justification for our second invasion. And I hold no brief for the way both he and Reagan propped up both sides of the Iran-Iraq war until Saddam went against one of our oil-producing allies.
Domestically, his continuation of Reagan's policies- kinder and gentler, but still blaming poor people for being poor- I believe were a result of the prosperity gospel that many of his age grew up with; if you're a good person, then God will look after you, and if you're not, then your faults find you out. The reverse of this is that wealth is a sign of good character and hard work, while poverty means you're slovenly and have no redeeming qualities. This is still the basic economic foundation of the Republican party, where it takes the form of social Darwinism: look after the rich, because they're the superior breed. We're better off without the poor weighing us down.
All in all, though, considering the Republicans who have come after him, I prefer GHWB. He was still more or less a gentleman, and his was a better generation. It's hard to imagine him sending twitter rants.
I always felt that Barbara looked like his mother, though.
Well, at least I can give him credit for disliking Trump. Not sure that he deserves it for anything else.
TrumpOLINI probably killed zero people by Inauguration Day. ...daddy Bush hated his gangster traitor son Jeb wasting 120 million losing the job to TrumpOLINI. ....THE BUSH CRIME FAMILY is the worst in US HISTORY worse than genocidal Andrew Jackson. ...I am Cherokee
He was the head of the CIA. No mercy or sympathy.
We need a CIA. It's like nuclear weapons... As long as other countries have one, we better have one, even if we don't like having it around.
5% of truth is still truth. ...murdered Allende, Mossadeq and JFK who ever Texas Oil wanted murdered including 9/11 for Silversteins 2 airplanes melt 3 WTC TOWERS scam
"Read my lips...no Heaven""

I just read that. May he Rest In Peace!
If I believed in Hell, I'd would be hoping he was burning in it.
@KKGator it is just time to renew the gene pool! I guess I don’t feel he needs any more attention wasted toward him.
