A wonderful book on Darwin's early life is This Thing of Darkness by Harry Thompson. Really a biography of Fitzroy, the Beagle's religious captain. One of my favourite books ever.

Why do all the portraits of Darwin show an old white bearded (aka God) man? He was young when he went to the Galapagos Island and started his observations that led to his theory. No beard and handsome.

I wonder if you were to show his face to a Christian and not say who he was, they might think he was theirs instead of ours?

Interesting that Darwin never commented much about religion. He believed that there will eventually be found a physical law that causes life to appear out of inorganic chemicals. I agree.Read or listen to "What is Life?" by Addy Pross
