I think that many of my friends who adamantly oppose today's Republicans are missing one point. I do not believe that Trumps base ((low-minded, mean, morally low) base exceeds one-third of the population. As the degree of Trump's treachery and corruption becomes more and more evident his political support among the general population will be peeled away to the point that his support is only that one-third, of even less.

As that happens, most Republican politicians are going to realize that if they continue to support Trump, they are making themselves unelectable. They might be able to win Republican primaries, but in all locales except reactionary bastions, they could not win general elections. Being the self-centered politicians that they are, they will play CYA and abandon Trump. That is my belief.

i do not think we are missing that point. we know that. but that third is not what is important. it's the republican politicians who, while already realizing they're making themselves unelectable, still for the most part HAVE to support trump because they, too, are compromised. they will leave their positions rather than fight trump. they owe russia, bigtime.

I respectfully disagree. I agree with you on the motives and current behavior of Republican politicians. But, what I am saying is that, was public outrage about Trump's corruption increases and spreads, a number of them will pull away just to try to save their own asses. Even then, their motives will not be benevolent and patriotic, but selfish.

@wordywalt well, a number of them will indeed pull away. and you're right, their motives will be selfish. and i said nothing that conflicted with that, so with what do you respectfully disagree?

@genessa Good.

1/3 is a bit of a stretch don’t you think? Especially when I’d say that 1/2 of his votes came from republicans who vote republican just to prevent a democrat from becoming president as well as disenfranchised democrats and vengeful independents.
I voted for Gary Johnson btw ?

Oh and before anyone starts ringing the popular vote bell I will remind you that Jill Stein demanded a recount in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

And it was stopped because in Michigan alone they had discovered nearly 14,000 write in votes for Bernie Sanders that were placed in HRC’s boxes.
Just saying that I’m willing to bet that if there had been a detailed recount of every state that allowed write in votes that those popular #’s would be a hell of a lot closer than what was reported.

Let us hope so but there are many who like what he is doing. Just look at what he has done to banking,stocks,hedge funds and deregulation of everything. He has done so much damage it will take years to repair.
