"Books are a poor substitute for female companionship but they are easier to find" - Kvothe, The Wise Man's Fear
Unless youβre looking for the final book of that trilogy...
Ouch! True though. I just hope he doesn't pull a Martin and shift his focus to the TV adaptation.
Shouldn't that be attributed to Patrick Rothfuss?
Agreed, but the character said it in the book did he not?
Yes, but when attributing the quote it should read: Author, Character, Book.
Got it.
What happens when you have run out of good books? Read everything your fave author has ever written?
I think when we open our eyes there are many more women around than we realise, but finding the rights ones is harder than finding the right books.
Reread an old favorite
Run out?!? Bite your tongue!! There is never a shortage. Bookstores, resale places, internet downloads.... some even free! Run out indeed... lol!
Thanks @Fearlessfreep I have only ever re-read 2 books in my life, I have a crazy memory.
Haha @AmyLF good advice, very good advice in fact, I run a 2nd hand book stall of a Wednesday morning, the troops always go through it to find books I might like, I do have 3 up my sleeve at the moment, that will last me into next week. My problems with books is the same as my problem with women, not attracted to the same things as everybody else, and I have a very narrow band of interests.
@Rugglesby People certainly seem to fall hard on the to reread to not reread front. Maybe it is a question of memory. I've several books that I'll revisit every few years. My new thing is listening to the audio versions of books I've read. Anecdotally, there may be a genetic component. All my kids are big time rereaders.
"...harder to find the right one" or AFRAID of finding the right one? This goes for both genders.
My ex used to gripe when I would reread a book. I would tell her that I was 'gleaning'. That went way over her head. I don't know why it did?? She was a school teacher and an LVN. Now she's an EX, ha ha.
Might I suggest different search methods? If you had bad luck in the local bar... might not be a place for it? If you had bad luck with certain type of women it might not be a type you really should hook up with? Look deep inside yourself and uncover the true reasons.... and you shall be granted a new chapter! Better good book than crappy humans! But there are many really good humans hiding behind books and faulty reasonings, walling themselves in and complaining instead of taking first steps to happiness. And some are content with books and thatβs good too! However, no man or woman have a right to whine instead of taking remedial steps to live better lives! Look at it this way... what do you have to loose? Try and try again and eventually you would succeed.
I'm certainly not risk averse in that area but I do worry at times that I'm getting far too comfortable being alone. I'm still putting myself out there but I won't end up with someone because I'm afraid to be by myself. I hope you didn't see that quote as a whine, it's just a quote from one of my favorite books. It has many great lines, I'll be posting another. Good advice though, and I will certainly keep trying
Itβs not a bad quote... I didnβt think it was a whine. Iβm at the same place in my life where a good book is better then a bad company ??. @Fearlessfreep
Never found women hard to find but, smart ones, without religious baggage, with common interests and common chemistry; that is not that easy.
Aye, there's the rub.
And within a comfortable distance. I don't plan to ever move from this area, and most people of the age I want to be involved with are not interested in moving either. Then this thing where it is winter and frigid, and even someone on the fence about moving would look at that and decline.
@HippieChick, Agreed. I'm, sometimes I think unfortunately, far to settled here. The romantic in me loves the idea of meeting someone and falling in love and moving across country but that's not an option for me at least for a few years and i wouldn't ask anyone to do something I'm unwilling to do.
Finding women isn't the issue. It's finding ways to avoid being ignored or humiliated that is the problem.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Good one.
Of course, many women love to read also, and a common love for certain books could be a way to meet a soul mate match.
Well so is pizza dang it! ....don't give up...keep looking!
When it comes to pizza I'm easy. And to steal a line from Woody Allen, "even my worst one was right on the money."
Quoting Woody Allen may not be the best way to find female companionship...
Perhaps it's just you?..
This has come to mind.
