"The real damage is done by those millions who want to "survive." The honest men who just want to be left in peace. Those who don't want their little lives disturbed by anything bigger than themselves. Those with no sides and no causes. Those who won't take measure of their own strength, for fear of antagonizing their own weakness. Those who don't like to make waves - or enemies. Those for whom freedom, honor, truth, and principles are only literature. Those who live small, mate small, die small. It's the reductionist approach to life: if you keep it small, you'll keep it under control. If you don't make any noise, the bogeyman won't find you. But it's all an illusion, because they die too, those people who roll up their spirits into tiny little balls so as to be safe. Safe?! From what? Life is always on the edge of death; narrow streets lead to the same place as wide avenues, and a little candle burns itself out just like a flaming torch does. I choose my own way to burn." Sophie Scholl
Talk about blaming the victim(s)!
Do you have any idea who Sophie Scholl was?
@THHA no, I mean to say that the average Joe does not want or start wars
Sophie Scholl: The Final Days . . . Based on historical events . . .
@THHA death furthers no cause.....
What happened to blaming the victim?
@THHA Don't understand your question. The victims of violence may or may not be somewhat guilty of its' appearance. But doing foolish things in furtherance of resisting, rather than living to resist another day, is pretty silly, IMO. Better to get vital work done than be venerated as a "hero" because you got caught...and therefore can resist no more. I am obviously a very pragmatic person, not "romantic" or sentimental about noble gestures.....
Once again, I'm not so sure you really know who she was and what happened . . . people do not often jump into the fire as a deliberate act as you seem to be assuming.
@THHA I refer you to the opening arguement by the resistance grip in your movie! Also I edited my comment for spelling.
This is continuing along the same steady track, a continuous track of assuming . .
@THHA no, actually listening to the characters discuss the "wisdom" of publicly handing out resistance tracts...and I can't help but notice most of them think that is a suicidal move.
Unlike you, I am not blinded by the idealistic BS at the end. Plenty of French Resistance people, for example, survived, or only got caught because of treachery or very bad luck. Far more useful alive & free!
Freedom is not free.
