If time travel will be possible in the future, how come no one has ever come back to say hi?????? (Yes, I am on vacation... too much time on my hands)
Enjoy the vacation. About time travelers, how do you know this? Important thing for you and anyone else to understand: Time travel to the past is not impossible until we have determined through experiment that it is. I think it highly unlikely, but considerably more possible than the existence of a god.
My article on the subject from a writer's perspective: [perihelionsf.com]
Here it is in QM:
And Kip Thorne speaks about the same:
Just for the record, I don't know. I was just goofing around.
@IamNobody -- Of course you were, and so was I. I was aware that you knew I knew you didn't know that I knew you didn't know, ya know? In this case, you mentioned a topic near and dear to my heart, one that I play with a lot and frequently, so I figured as how I'd put in my two cents.
@evidentialist well done !!!! I like that sense of humor actually !!!
If you had a time machine would you return to NOW?
Interesting observation !!!!
@MichaelCole2 -- That would depend upon which theory of time is being considered as operational and the accuracy of the navigation. Navigation? Yeah. Time and space are intertwined and one apparently cannot be removed from the other, hence the space-time continuum.
To travel in time is to travel in space. One would need to know the precise coordinates of a certain place in a specific time. One would also not want to travel to that specific point but rather emerge somewhere removed from that point, then travel to that point. This is a practical issue involving potential errors and the last thing you would want to do would be to materialize in a concrete wall. Not only would it ruin your day, the resulting explosion (nuclear in nature) would ruin several somebodies day along with it.
Consider the implications of being able to travel back in time. Any change, even inadvertent, even to do the slightest good, could result in YOUR not being born. Consider that even as a bystander, a person's presence could result in changing history.
Nah. If you traveled back in time and made a change that resulted in you not being born then you wouldn't be born to travel back in time and make it so you weren't born.....
The reason they have not come back is the same reason that Jesus is never coming back. Think on that a while.
.......are you saying Jesus came from the future and since he was tortured and killed therefore no more travelers are willing to venture anymore because they are affraid the same will happen to them? That's an interesting view ?????
They haven't contacted you yet? Huh....
If I tell you then I will have to shot you..... ??
If time travel is ever invented, there will also likely be non-interference measures enacted. Go back and observe and study all you like, but do not in any way, shape or form do even the slightest thing which might interfere with and change the time line.
Going back to study would be dangerous also...the people nearby would react to your presence in the way that they would not normally did back then, changing how things played out.
How would that policy even be enforceable? Those who don't want it would just go back in time to sabatoge the vote/legislation/ whatever to make it into what they'd like.
Saying "hi" to one's long dead ancestors may not be high on a time travelers to do list. I'd certainly choose to do other things with it than dazzle the ignorant, backwards, people from the past.
Good one, someone really understood the intent !!
@IamNobody this had intent? What a way to ruin a vacation. ?
