I'm not sure what category to put this post into. This morning I put a steamer pot on the stove with a little water in it to steam some carrots. About 20 minutes later, I was upstairs in my office and my cat came in screaming bloody murder and wouldn't stop yelling. I looked at him and tried to calm
him down, but he just kept yelling at me. I started to walk towards him and he took a few steps toward the door and looked over his shoulder and yelped. I moved in his direction and he took a few more steps, looked over his shoulder and yelped again. So I followed him down the hallway with him turning around every few steps to make sure I was following. When I got to the stairs I smelled something burning. Then I remembered the pot so I ran to the kitchen. There was a lot of smoke, but I have the kind of smoke alarm that ignores kitchen mishaps so the alarm hadn't gone off. I turned off the stove and took the pot off the burner. The water had boiled out and the pot had a thick coating of black ash on the inside and was smoking like crazy.
I have never seen a cat do anything like that before. When I looked at him a few minutes later he was in the dining room washing his face, completely calm. I swear that cat was warning me that I was in danger. Weird but true.
Here's my little hero in the photo below.
Great story! Thanks for sharing! I'm so glad he warned you and there was no damage.
He got extra treats. Then he hissed at me
Good kitty. Give him a hug and extra treat.
I'm not allowed to hug him (he was a feral I rescued) but he did get extra treats
Glad you had a good outcome.
For those who like cats, this is a rather fun group to join [agnostic.com]
Black cats are the best! Glad you are both alright...
They are very sensitive to smell....it was getting right up his nose and he had to let you know! ?
You're probably right. It was probably more of a reprimand than a warning! The whole house smelled like burning pot, and not the good kind
I think we need to see more photos of hero kitteh...
Here he is with his best friends
@TheoryNumber3 He's a tuxedo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Qualia Yep. Very formal when doing safety checks
Animals are quite amazing sometimes. Put on the Pets group page.
I didn't know there was one. Thanks
He was in danger too, and smoke could be a lot more hurtful to a cats eyes/nose than ours. So although he was being smart in fetching you, maybe it was not being all that unselfish.
Someone else mentioned that. They are a little narcissistic
