Testing the waters here. Just seeing if there are any fans who share some of my music tastes... Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds? Stereolab? Broadcast? Siouxsie & the Banshees? Bauhaus? Cocteau Twins? ...Seeking some like-minded individuals. If you're in the L.A. area, stop by, check out my profile, say hi.
Siouxsie & the Banshees was the first Big Gig I went to . Peek-a-boo tour @ the Apollo , Manchester UK . Bit far from L.A. but fun fact
I've seen her live several times and loved it every time. She always puts on such a great show. I saw her live out in the L.A. desert in 2004 at an '80s revival show, playing as Siouxsie & the Banshees, but it was essentially a Creatures show, the same set up Siouxsie used for the Creatures' 2003 album Hai! Instead of bringing the whole band, it was Siouxsie, Budgie and a Japanese drummer. They were playing Siouxsie songs, but in a more minimal way. Less instrumentation, but no less intense.
A little older than you. Clash, Ramones, English Beat, Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, Joan Armatrading, Specials, Bob Marley, any first or second wave ska.
I LOVE Joan Armatrading! I've purchased her "Track Record" numerous times.
I like some ska. I went to high school in the '80s, so I heard plenty. Post-punk, too. Love the Clash and the Ramones.
@Ruby_Slipper Huge ska fan. English Beat's 'Special Beat Service' might be my favorite album of all time. Saw them in concert recently although the only one left was one of the lead singers.
strawberry girl and cocteau ! they were so freaky
You mean Strawberry Switchblade?
I like Siouxsie and the Cocteaus, I'm nowhere near LA though... Sorry!
The only unfamiliar name in your list was Broadcast, but I am fans of the rest of them. Also the Cure, Smiths, Jesus & Mary Chain, lots of others, and if you want to go darker, Ministry. There used to be a radio station near Boston WFNX which was dedicated to what was called alternative music at the time. Unfortunately, that spot on the dial now emits country music.
I've never been a big fan of Ministry, aside from their early material. The whole industrial/rivethead scene kind of bores me. Sad when you lose a good radio station to other interests, though.
