So this morning we filled up the bird feeder with seeds - the birds started flocking to it - so, of course, our outside cat (Boogie) has jumped up in there and sat down. I suppose he's waiting for a bird to just fly in his mouth and save him the trouble of having to actually catch one. Can we spell L-A-Z-Y???
Boogie is Not lazy !!! Boogie is optimistic and has patience and free x to spend ?. Boogie is loved and she knows it ? She might been looking to get one and bring it to u ?
I am boogies lawyer ?
Bad form imo.
Me or the cat?
@Lavergne lol the cat
@tinebean Meow would be a good time to start.
??
why am I so hungry today
Cats that live in the wild and indoor pets allowed to roam outdoors kill from 1.4 billion to as many as 3.7 billion birds in the continental U.S. each year, says a new study.
Maybe people should be charged when their pets kill wild animals the same as they would be if the intentionally killed it themselves.
@JimG I don't condone senseless killing of any animals....but mother nature seems to have her own agenda. Last year we saw snakes catch baby birds in their nests - some birds accidentally flew into upper story windows - (sh) it happens....I keep all of our cats well fed so they don't hunt for food. But you can't completely eliminate their natural instincts....we have hawks out here that catch their fair share also.
@Lavergne you do realize that cats are native to this continent, right? Snakes, hawks, coyotes, foxes, bobcats, owls, etc. all rely on the prey and generally don't kill for sport. I've seen quite a few cats become prey for larger predators, hit by cars, and caught in traps too.
In fact, when I was younger I killed my sister's cat because she'd let it out overnight, and I started my car without realizing it had found a warm place to sleep in my engine compartment.
@Lavergne Have you ever seen the damage done by feral cats and foxes to the native fauna here in Australia, not to mention the new-born lambs with their guts torn open while still alive, the ewes who've just given birth and had their rear ends literally eaten away? I have and it is HORRIFIC to say the very least.
The faeces of domestic cats in particular are the primary source of Toxoplasmosis, a disease most often fatal to pregnant women and young babies/children.
IF people want to keep cats as pets then they SHOULD be subject to the same legal requirements as are dog owners, i.e. the cat MUST be registered and micro-chipped, either kept indoors at ALL times or, IF and when allowed outside, it MUST be housed in an escape proof run to stop it from straying, etc.
@ReadyforaChange Well that's your opinion isn't it?
@Triphid so sorry to hear about all that carnage. My comments were totally tongue in cheek and not meant to offend anyone. I will say tho - that our situations are very different. Up here in the mountains, the feral cats are the prey and the packs of coyotes are the predators. Hence my sympathy (empathy) for all cats - feral and otherwise.
@Triphid Absolutely.
Sounds like he's smartly waiting for an opportunity
So many wild birds lost to both pet and feral cats. Please, if you won't keep your cat indoors, at least put a bell on his collar.
