I always here folks ask what the new year is going to bring you. Well, I at least, have my answer. It has brought me a bird. Yes, a bird. I was out smoking a cigarette before putting the munchkin down for a nap and puttering around in my garden when I heard a squeal! And then a grey blur rushed at my skirt hem. It nestled in as deep as it could manage and sat there shivering. After unwrapping the many layered fabric from the little guy or gal, I found d that I had made the very abrupt acquaintance of a robin. The poor dear has a dislocated wing but with my bad hands I'm afraid I will snap it's little bones trying to set it on my own. The vets in my area are closed for the new year so it looks like I have a guest for a bit. Wish the little pecked luck!

Many many moons ago I was out walking through a creek in the bush hunting rabbits for a friend on a Sheep Station ( they were a REAL PEST at the time) when, while standing right under a tree sighting up a shot on a rabbit, I squeezed the trigger and fired only to feel a few seconds later something land on my head with a bit of a thump.
It turned out to be a White Cockatoo, barely covered with its adult feathers and completely stunned.
I picked it up, took it back to camp and then brought it home with me where it became a very great pet/friend whom I named 'Ooops' in honour of its manner of introducing itself to me.
Ooops never learned to fly but she could could certainly walk around the neighbourhood and make her presence know to one and all with comments that would make any sailor blush....LOL.
Now days, after rescuing and rehabilitating a Wedge-tailed Eagle, similar to the one in the photo below, I have her return to my home on fairly regular occasions to cadge a free feed or just to spend time hanging around the house with me, a rescued Sand Goanna, also living in my yard since she has a damaged left rear hind foot and claws, she too is quite friendly and keeps the snails down in the garden.

my grand mother got a paraket that she was hanging the wash it landed on her head, she walked into the house and it stayed

It happens all the time honestly, I'm not even surprised about it anymore. It shocks people who don't know me well tho when we are hanging out in their yard or at the river or in a park and random animals approach. The cats and dogs are usually an instant winner but when it's a coyote or a skunk people get all "oh no! A savage wild beastie! I don't mind it tho. I have made many friends because of it and wouldn't have it any other way.
