What was "The Moment" for you? The conversation or event that set your Atheism in motion.
There was no "moment". It was a gradual process over several years.
Birth. I seriously think I was born without the part of the brain that allows religious belief because it never took hold.
For me it was a moment that caused a bunch of "aha's". Missed a sunday school van at age 5. My dad couldn't have cared less, and I realized it was okay to not buy into this stuff I was hearing every sunday. From there on, it was queston city. Letters home, and recieving candy for not talking. Lol
My Mother describing how she’d had to say a prayer in school each day, and how glad she was a woman named Madalyn O’Hair took a school to court - and how happy she was we’d never have to pray in school… Way back, but my Mother was overflowing with a power and hope she’d rarely if ever experienced in life.. It was infectious ~
Well I can most honestly and safe state that mine was when, aged about 8 or 9, I asked questions at Sunday School, where I was literally forced to go by my 'mother', and was subsequently expelled.
The same/similar happened at EVERY other Sunday School of EVERY other Religious Denomination she forced me to attend.
In bible camp at the age of eight. I just realized that the stories in the buybull made absolutely no logical sense. The next few years I questioned everything and finally left the church when I was 13.
My last straw was when my 3 week old son died from SIDS. I allowed my Christian sister set up the funeral (I was teetering on the edge of agnostic/atheism at that time), and she had one of the deacons of her church officiate. He said in front of everyone that we all should be glad that my son died; that way he wouldn't have to deal with what was coming. He not only said it once, he said it at least three times.
Thinking back, I should have allowed my oldest son and my step-son to beat the crap out of him. He got his in the end though. By the time 1993 was over, this man lost his wife, his company, and his church. His only son has nothing to do with him since this man threw him out of the house for being a drag queen. So, if there is such a thing as Karma, he got his.
