I don't see personal finances as a zero sum game. It's a common misconception in conservative policy circles, but I believe that wealth can be created and nurtured organically in ways that don't have to victimize others. In most cases the problem is greed and a desire for instant gratification.
In principle, I see no reason why everyone couldn't be considerably elevated in their financial situation. Why? Well ... consider the average standard of living in the West now vs 500 years ago. While there is still plenty of poverty, a FAR greater percentage of people are living comfortably while the percentage of people in extreme, grinding poverty has actually gone down in the past decade. This trend is now reversing, but not, in my view, because it was unsustainable. It is just that the extreme uber-rich contribute little of actual value, and take it directly and indirectly from people of lesser means. That's the greed and instant gratification part. Also the privilege part.
Wealth is generated from innovation and scientific progress. Humanity is nowhere near its potential in those areas. We CAN lift all boats ... just not a few boats quite so much for so little good reason.
For these reasons I am uncomfortable seeing the wealthy as the cause of poverty, or poverty as enabling wealth. It's not that simple, or that inevitable.
And doesn't Donald just know it!
He eats, lives, and breathes it.
