If you are in your late 40's and are working on a factory job that could easily could be exported overseas what action would you take to protect your employment?
I'm eligible to retire from Chrysler May 31, 2021. I started pursuing a business idea last summer in anticipation of that change in my life. If for some reason my plant closes before my retirement date I will jump onto that track full time.
Good for you

I had a couple of factory-type jobs after high school. They gave me a pretty good incentive to go to college and get into a professional field of study. I feel bad for anyone who's stuck doing menial labor with no way out.
What action could you take?
I always prepared for a job change statring with two months savings to pay bills. I was lucky I changed when I found it convienent.
@Marine true but what if you can't go? i always have money saved like you too.
Viewing that which has been going on I would select a field and try to gain knowledge in the new field that would provide employment should I lose my current job. By doing so I might be able to improve my income and secure a job until I decide to retire. To not do this would be like playing crap at that age!
