I'm contemplating getting a cat ?. I have had dogs most of my life but I have never really owned a cat, so I don't know to much about it. It seems like alot of users here have or have had cats and seem to enjoy them. I plan on getting a rescue or a stray and having them fixed. I basically want a cat to just chill and basically be a lap cat but I wouldn't mind the cat doing it's own thing. Can you train them to use the bathroom outside or do you have to have a litter box? I have alot of electronics with a bunch of cords, so do they chew on them? I live in a very rural area with lots of birds and I don't want the cat to kill them, so should I declaw it? Any breeds I should look into the most? Any advice would be nice. Thank you

I've had both cats and dogs for most of my life, I prefer dogs to cats for a great number of reasons including;
a) with dogs there are NO stinking, foul littler trays around the house,
b) dogs are eager to please you, easy to train,
c) great companions who WILL stick by you through thick and thin,
d) protective and loyal, and, last but by no means least,
e) are open with their affections towards and welcome yours in return.

I love cats -- their combination of independence and being very affectionate (when they want to be). I find that cats sense one's mood much more than dogs.
