Why the Smartest People Have the Toughest Time Dating
[huffpost.com]
The higher your expectations, the harder it is to find people to meet those expectations.
True...but do you think the answer is to stop looking or settle?
@thinktwice I think you just put some thought into it, some things are more important than others and it is up to you to find which traits you can make concessions on.
@AlexRam Yes, it is an individual choice...I am not willing to settle and am optimistic enough to believe I can have it all...
oh good grief. maybe this article's author has determined these things for him/herself, but generalizations should not be applied to everyone. Life is so complex and there can be many reasons for anything, often reasons that are not even related, like caring for family members, work life, social abilities, and simply exposure to new people.
Well, think of this: Why do a lot of smart people have problems to find a job they like, because they are over-educated and the managers don't want wise guys like themselves criticise them. It's all about do the related people communicate in the same way and do they understand each other?
Must be a fricking genius, 75 years and I don't have clue one.....
Yet you're smart enough to know it.
If you are a male then he wants to marry someone who is not as smart as him but if you are a female then you want someone that is as smart as you.
I disagree. I love intelligent, educated women. I just wish they, or any woman for that matter, loves men like me; with my lack of confidence, depression, anxiety, kindness. I find my biggest turn off though is my being both an atheist and a liberal; they usual hate one or the other.
@ChristopherLost aww Chris you sound adorable. Left wing and atheist are my absolute minimum requirements in a chap, as well as brains. Unfortunately I am a b'gillion miles away, an old woman and not single
I disagree - I wanted someone super smart!
@ToolGuy, @AlexRam, @ChristopherLost Don't worry there will be a woman who will take her under your wing and bring you slippers and your pipe.
@ToolGuy, @AlexRam, @ChristopherLost, @Ron_R You are right but on the whole. All the women I know want men who are rich and smart and all the men want a woman who will admire them no matter how dumb they are.
I can relate to a lot of this article, but the biggest hurdle for me is, dumb is unattractive.....
And boring
This article is kind of interesting to see another person's take on it.
However I think she conflated some ideas.
One that intelligent people all go to college.
Two that all intelligent people were effectively introverts or lack soft skills.
Three that intelligent people only date other intelligent people.
Excellent points...
Interesting, but I disagree that smart people are looking for perfection...we just want a smart person. Appearances will change as we age, but we can and want to get smarter and keep learning and sharing ideas and knowledge...a partner that continues to stimulate your mind is often harder to find, but well worth it. Eliminating 95 % of the population seems a bit high, but striving for the 5% is still achievable....settling for less is not.
@Pbpierson2 People have way too much time to overthink this shit, don't they? We are studied up and down and still, no one can figure out humans any better than just talking to them and listening...go to bed, my friend, and sleep well...don't clutter your mind with the dribble of those with too much time...like me! ha ha ha Sweet dreams...
@PalacinkyPDX but I prefer the curse over the alternative....
