What are knickers for? I mean I must have a few 1000 pairs in my life and I am not fully sure why we wear knickers. Its not like we have a special garment for our underarms. Why did we, as a species, decide that your bum needed a special covering? I am not considering g-strings here (which I and the BMA, believe are disgusting vile efforts). I mean undies for your bottom, girls and boys. I have had private messages from some men who have even asked me about them. My usual answer, 'dark blue cotton knickers, probably about 20 years old, came in a pack of 6 for a fiver from Matalan'. Seriously though, what would happen, if one day we all said no more knickers? Humans are weird.
Why do we, as a species, wear clothes at all. Just to protect us from the elements? It would be interesting to know when the first garment, animal skin I would assume, was first worn. When did sewing beads on them for purely fashion begin. And so I'm not entirely off topic, when were knicker, underwear in US, first made / worn?
And as long as we're at it, why do we wear clothes? Damn humans
Coz its 3°
I live in the UK, I'm covered up even in the summer. LOL
Flesh-coloured tights (pantyhose) and stockings are the ones that bother me. What is the point of something that makes your legs look the same colour they already are and is immediately ruined if it comes within three metres of a twig, splinter or nail?
(Hosiery in green, blue and other colours is no more twig-proof, obviously, but has far more point as it makes a statement!)
I know...I wear black black black thick tights or go bare. I am a pale freckly ginger no one is fooled by american tan tights.
When I wear dresses, I wear pantyhose. I'm not trying to fool anyone but instead am protecting my feet from shoes. My feet don't do well unless they have something between them and the shoe. Bobby socks don't look good with a dress.
According to Wikipedia -
"Undergarments are items of clothing worn beneath outer clothes, usually in direct contact with the skin, although they may comprise more than a single layer. They serve to keep outer garments from being soiled or damaged by bodily excretions, to lessen the friction of outerwear against the skin, to shape the body, and to provide concealment or support for parts of it. In cold weather, long underwear is sometimes worn to provide additional warmth."
Some of the reasons for underwear are indeed practical.
