"Objectivity is a distinctively human trait, as only human beings have the capacity for objectivity. It involves the ability to shift perspective, and no one has ever attributed this to animals. Objectivity requires us to stand back from our perceptions, our beliefs and opinions, to reflect on them, and subject them to a particular kind of scrutiny and judgment. Above all, it requires a degree of indifference in judging that may conflict with our needs and desires"
from: Stephen Gaukroger "Objectivity. A very short introduction"
Every time somebody has to spout claptrap to differentiate us from "the animals" I hear a gawd troll. (The Divine Human made in the image of gawd, ferpetessake)[
"Only humans use tools"...BS, and demonstrated
"Only humans feel loss/[ove"..BS, and demonstrated
Now we have "empathy" as the "only humans feel it"....because nobody's dog ever tried to comfort an unhappy owner......
We are All animals, get over it!
I believe what you just posted is what the bible writers, who were influenced by Hellenistic ideas, were describing when they talked about the mind or spirit that was in Jesus. This level of thought, which surpassed the level of instinct or strict religious dogma, was believed to have a divine source. "New Thought" religions which traditionally were called Mystic still maintain this belief. Proper development of these "Divine Abilities" do not require a belief in a god but do require faith or at least confidence in the righteousness of objectivity.
