The biggest opponents to Amazon moving to NYC were unions, Amazon said it would crush unions. It would have also adversely affected ordinary working people who would have been further pushed out of any affordable housing. For what? An absolutely miserable company, one that pays zero Federal Taxes...get woke.
Is it really hostile to ask why a highly profitable corporation which doesn't even pay taxes shoudl get billions in subsidies and tax breaks? I think they pulled out because they wee being asked embarrassing questions. Like, "Why shoudl tax payers be subsidizing such a hugely profitable company?" Especially at a level where they (New York State) won't break even from all the giveaways for probably over 20 years? It will be hew Yorker's who pick up the bill for those giveaways.
That 20 years is nothing compared to the lost Real estate revenue, and the loss of local business expansion that 20000 new residents would have added. Also the loss of additional tax revenue from local business expansion. The benefits of having Amazon far outweighs the negatives according to Forbes .On the other hand as a retired New York resident I think this place is over crowded allready and it would mean more than 20,000 people because these workers have families.
@richiegtt I've been finding myself having ot move the last two times because of increased populations which made local housing affordable. I don't think Forbes counts much more than the business benefits. There are human costs of persosn who get priced out of their homes to as a result of too many people.
