Help me out here. if you watch commercial tv, watch the commercials. yes, i know it hurts, but do it for me, just for a day or two, depending on how much tv you generally watch. if you watch a fair amount, one day will be fine. watch the damned commercials. write down every instance of someone's saying "two times" instead of "twice." you can write down when someone says "twice" too -- but your screen/page/napkin will be blank. report here what you find. i think it's deliberate. there is a conspiracy against the word "twice." if you like a challenge, write down whenever someone avoids a comparative or superlative and instead says "more good" and the like instead of "better."

I will keep that in mind. I do watch the commercials to see what they are actually trying to shove down people's throats (sometimes literally). I'm Canadian but I also get some US channels (I'm in Alberta but for some reason I get Boston channels, who knows why).
You’ve got me intrigued...but as I will be watching UK TV...will the same apply ? I will try to find out, although I don’t watch much commercial TV, preferring the BBC, which is advert.free. Will certainly be interested in why you think this is going on.
you tell me! i'd be curious whether this phenomenon has crossed the pond. (i like the beeb too -- used to work for bbc's language school in nagoya, japan, also sometimes in osaka branch).

@genessa Interesting job!
@Marionville with a great salary, too! zero, in any currency! but our curiosity will be satisfied, except as to WHY. why why why is there this conspiracy?
