Would it be better if the United States split into two completely separate countries, the Democratic States of America and the Conservative States of America.
I think at this point there is absolutely no peaceful way to work together. I don't think they WANT to work together. I truly think it is no longer about trying to come together but trying to completely take over.
Maybe the confederacy SHOULD have been allowed to secede ? Maybe we should revisit the idea of a separated country.
I've been thinking "here goes another Civil War...." for a while now. Families are divided, friends and strangers.
I'd be up for seperating. (they can build the wall though).
I just don't know where all the hate is coming from - how so many men and women just hate? I'm so tired of the hate.
@TheInterlooper Screaming off into the night.... that's funny!
It's crossed my mind, but just think, you'd be stuck n Kansas. Lol
I was thinking "Those poor Southern State Atheists!".
I was thinking we would have a short period of resettlement
Geographically it wouldnt work. There are giant pockets of liberals wirrounded by conservative rural areas.
Um rural liberal here.... (Boondocks has been used to describe where I live - but those folks are mistaken).
That’s atypical. @RavenCT
It's the boonies in Connecticut. Maybe other boonies are different?
I have some liberal neighbors. I'm sure there's a share of crazy ones in there too.
I've read that the liberal-conservative split in America isn't so much between red states and blue states, but between urban and rural areas. You couldn't divide up on an ubran-rural axis as cities and small towns-and-country are too interdependent.
If you were going to divide on a red state-blue-state basis, it would work out to about three countries, a blue West Coast and Hawaii contaning a long suffering Alaska, San Diego, Orange County, and rural counties. A blue North East, a red evreywhere else, and having to decide who gets custody of the purple rust belt.
Yeah, the interesting part is that the Liberal areas generate so much more of the Nations income than anywhere else. I mean, the West Cost would largely be part of the Liberal country in question, with the NE/cost being another large part (which makes the theory untenable for reality) which also has a large part of the economy. So, you'd have a very welthy liberal country, containing a very poor Republican (I won't call it conservative because what the Republican party is right now really isn't conservative, at least not by the definition I understand) country... which would be fun to watch! The Reps would just go ape shit pissed about that!
I mean, California has an economy bigger than many countries! So, how would it be feasible for those poor states to be separated from their only means of financial support?
The fact is that we need to seriously work on our economy and the Reps just don't see that. Further irony, if we did have a strong economy, a lot of these divisive issues wouldn't be so divisive! <sigh> Yeah, I want this to be over, like two years ago!
It would be nice! Problem is those pesky corporations and 1%ers on both sides would never give up their stranglehold on the natural resources of the other side. They don't keep this country united for the interest of the citizens, they keep it united for profits and labor pools.
You probably think in terms of separating the liberal states from the conservative states. But actually liberals live in cities where they learn to work together with others towards common goals. Conservatives are mostly found in rural areas where they suck up lots of government benefits (mostly paid for by liberals) while spouting off about how independent they are.
As for if the confederacy had won they would have, no doubt, sided with Germany during WW II.
Hi
you know I've come to that conclusion years ago, however, I believe that it's impossible.
Because the government as we know it (trump) would not allow it , using extreme force -guns to prevent it.
He has this country caught in a web of
obfuscation and lies.
Sorry for the rant.
You are a very bright person.
This could never happen in reality. If we can't agree on simpler things, who is going to make the decisions about where the division would take place? Who gets the industries? Who gets the farmland? What currency will be used? Most of all, who will get control of the military? This idea sounds great...for five seconds until questions like this have to be answered.
Estimates of American Civil War dead yield about 785,000+. All for naught?
Perhaps. Do honestly think we are united? We haven't been the United states since as long as I can recall. Do you think 200 years isn't long enough of a time to move on? Why stay in an abusive and unhealthy marriage for the dead?
@LadyAlyxandrea cuz unity takes work. division takes negligence
Long term I could be great, short term would be like India and Pakistan.
Much of the population would have to physically move/relocate.
I'm all for it
Mass exodus. They want to kill their people and basically create prerevolutionary france then I say let them eat cake, but let only them reap what they sow
OM, LA, You are in KANSAS!
Not that the "idea" isn't vaguely appealing but, I live in a home I have paid off, not worth enough to finance one in the liberal portion of the country and at 67, have no real interest in relocating. BUT! and it is a BIG BUT, I LIVE IN KANSAS, TOO and there is no way the conservatives would give up Kansas. There are too damn many of them. Kansas barely escaped being part of the confederacy and I doubt we'd dodge it next time.
Goodness knows, if I were young and footloose, I'd certainly be considering moving, split or not. In fact, more likely I'd be considering immigrating to a more civilized country. Too bad I didn't follow that wild impulse back in the early 70's and hop a freighter to Australia.
Even on the left coast it is only in the coastal areas or big cities where it is blue. Since they are the largest population centers in the states, the whole states are blue. Look at the state electoral map of CA and you'll know what I mean.
CA by itself has the 6th largest economy in the world. If the western parts of the west coast succeded or joined BC... Sadly it is just a dream.
Can someone move me to cali?
@LadyAlyxandrea I live in WA now and I'm not moving back, plus you're too young for me...
If you go to San Jose or North, no one calls it Cali, maybe in SoCal.
So, if we split, one part of the country continues to guzzle gas, makes more coal plants, and trash windmils and solar farms. They eliminate all medicare, medicaid, school lunches, and other social programs, eliminate jobs by automating, stop paying for education, and max out the military.
Since they have automated, they only want a few people in their world. They force all the undesirables out, the poor and middle class, and control 80% of the resources of the US, because they already own them.
The rest of us, live in a small section of the US, and have 20% of the resources to take care of 95+% of the population.
I think it cannot work. They have been stealing from us for years, we should take it back.
I don't know how long this will last..Conservatives could turn on Trump in an instant if he crosses them, or Fox News decides to attack him, call him "Fake News" or the religious Right becomes offended and tells their congregations to boycott him.
I think it would have to be split in more than two.
I've thought about this more times than I count. Things recently have been quite vicious. I don't particularly identify with conservatives or liberals but would probably side w/liberals if given the option because around 75-90% of my views coincide with theirs.
Wow. Interesting concept. I think you are on to something. I don't think it should be strictly idiological. Geographically, I think New England could be a good and viable country on its own.
My friends and I have been guessing 5-6 different "provinces" ... West, East, NE, South, Midwest, SW.
And it all changed with the fire nation attacks
