Is there a button I missed that keeps new posts from groups I don't belong to off my main feed?
I don't think so. In my opinion, it should be a feature you decide to turn on, not something thrust upon us, like Facebook does with its "Similar posts" feature in the news feed.
Absolutely.
So far no matter what I do they keep showing up. I don't want to block someone for this, but if i wanted to see these things I'd belong to the group.
I was wondering about this too. I see huge numbers of posts from a member, (who I'm not following), made to groups I'm not in.
I'm thinking when someone creates a group post, than can also "share it" publicly. But
I can't respond to those posts because I'm not a member of the group
I can't customize my public feed (as far as i know)
Because those are public posts (even tho theyre also group posts), the only way (I think) I can stop it, is by blocking that member.
And because that member posts so much stuff, if i blocked them, it would really mess up my ability to see and comment on conversations I am involved in, or groups I am involved in, because we do have some overlap. I just want to be able to see other things besides a wall of one members stuff. What am I missing?
Missing? Nothing.
@hankster cool I'll try that, it should reduce the spam in my life by about a trillion percent. I'm glad I asked instead of just giving up.
@hankster I can actually see what other members are posting now. Thanks man.
@bingst I'm hoping things will work better tomorrow but right now I'm still seeing group posts from groups I "hid" as recommended by hank. I spent quite a bit of time scrolling through new posts and hand blocking the groups that seem to encourage the most xposts, or sharing, or whatever it's callled. I've logged out and back in, and no improvement. Im hoping its just an issue with my new settings not taking hold right away. And im glad that it seems like the majority of the annoying xposts come from only a few groups.
@MarkiusMahamius It does take a few days for the "Hide Groups" to take effect in alerts - I remember this from when I last did it.
As for getting alerts from groups you don't really care about? The only way to stop that is to block them - and I think we have near 600 groups on site.
I'd much rather be getting alerts for the groups I'm in. (And don't get).
@RavenCT yeah I blocked alerts for about 10 groups that I'm not in, that were generating most of th e unwanted garbage in my feed. I'm glad most of those remaining 600 groups are either inactive, or populated by people who are courteous enough not to share their posts. Going through those settings one by one, is an unpleasant chore.
