I have been watching discussions about Christianity on Youtube. Everybody talks about the bible as evidence for the existence of God. I think the discussion should go with a question: "Which came first, God or the Bible?" If God came first and influenced people to write the bible, then give evidence that God exists. Then I will believe the bible. If the Bible came first, then human beings invented God.
The Bible is evidence for the existence of God like Mother Goose is evidence for the existence of Humpty Dumpty.
That's an interesting question, far better than the chicken or the egg... I believe that people invented the concept of gods and goddesses, and more people furthered that belief to serve their purposes of setting up religions as a method of influencing and controlling people. I can only guess as to the original incentive, but power and control are central themes throughout history...
A lot of them will offer "answered prayers" as evidence (or, in their words "proof" ) that god exists. And if one is foolish enough to go into that argument with a "Christian", then he has a lot more time on his hands than I do.
I like the phrase, "What came first the Bible or God?" It makes a person think. It leads to asking the next question, "Who wrote the Bible?". You can come up with numerous ways to logically counter a godbot's rants by asking them questions. It doesn't seem likely they are going to rationalize along with logic. It seems more likely, success will come from their being placed in a position of answering questions. These types of questions may weaken their beliefs both long and short term.
I've heard that if man was meant to fly god would have given us wings, Mankind laughed at that and invented flying machines. Then if man was meant to swim underwater god would have given us gills so again man laughed then invented scuba gear. You get what I'm saying we make up stuff to fill the gaps in what we don't know or understand, Religion is man made and God does not exist. That is my belief.
People are taught as kids that the Bible is the Truth and that everything is the bible is 100% true. So if you are taught that whatever it says in the Bible is 100% true then you can say whatever you want to and say it's in the Bible and people believe it or better yet you can misinterpret passages in the bible and twist them to mean something they do not mean. There's no evidence of anything in the Bible but the Bible itself and if you strip away the Bible as evidence for itself then the House of Cards falls down.
During my life a number of people have asked me,"how can you read the bible and not believe in god?"
After taking a deep breath and calming myself down after my brain wanted to explode, I responded,"how can you read the bible and believe in god?"
I have always been struck by the belief that the bible is god's word. The evidence is crushing that people, mostly 2000 year old sheep herder men, wrote the bible. I once questioned a believer about this and she seemed very satisfied that she got me by responding that it is god's inspired word.OK. What does that mean? Then she said we know god exists because Ezekiel saw god. While my brain was exploding for a second time, I sarcastically asked. oh, Ezekiel saw god, and you know this exactly how? She said, it says so in the bible in the book of Ezekiel. My brain exploding for a third time, I asked her to show me the passage, which she proceeded to do. Turns out Ezekiel was watching clouds and saw something like a face that he interpreted as god. I simply cannot comment further. No brain left!
They will probably always say that God came first and that the bible is proof of God. They also say that the Earth and everything else in existence is proof of God too. They always offer non-verifiable answers.
