I notice that the "in your face" Trump supporters have almost completely vanished. Even the least perceptive are either seeing what we were explaining to them or they know expressing support for the moron in the White House is a great way for the entire community to turn on you.
Which is a good thing.
The only people left supporting him seem to be fundamentalist Christians.
If this is true in the general population then perhaps we'll actually get rid of this cancer in 2020 if not before, I sure hope before, but doubt it.
Pierre Trudeau fucked things up for us than when he was in office and now his son pushes for cannabis being a strong point but he is pretty much finishing what daddy started.
Might have to Do something about Trudeau as well the economy is a fucking disaster; like father like son I suppose.
That's interesting - and I hope it reflects the majority opinion. Unfortunately, the people that I know that supported him and voted for him are even more rabid in their defense of him than ever before. And its impossible to argue with them because every time I point out one of his failures they always come back to "the dems won't let him do what he promised to do" or...."he just hasn't had enough time - just watch and see". uugghhhhhhh
I have no optimism. None. He'll be back again I fear
I, too, am afraid you are right.
I am an optimist. I was listening to an NPR show where quite a few people called in and said the separation of families ended their hope he would become presidential and many more added their tax return was a thousand and some 2,000 less. They were irate about the lie that was still being told of the huge tax cut they got, NOT! Now I don't know how they could be regular NPR listeners, but they weren't buying the BS anymore and I don't think Hilary Clinton would have created the contrast for so many to vote for these new anti big corp newbies in Congress now. The contrast created a revolt to both parties.
A lot of the people we knew supported him were very vocal about his fantastic tax plan....now that they realize that "something happened" - but they're not sure just what - all they know is their tax refund was a lot smaller (or nonexistent) ....there STILL is no outrage. They have all shut up about taxes and moved on to one of his other idiotic issues. Bottom line: If love means never having to say you're sorry .........then voting for tRump means never having to admit you made a mistake. hahahahahah
@Lavergne well these are people who stumbled on NPR or are listeners. Most voted for him because they d oj dkntike Clinton. I shared not liking her, but voted for her. I was wanted to write in Bernie but felt it was a. ote for Trump. I was wrong. where I work the praises of Trump have stopped. But as you said,no one is saying they wish they hadnt voted.
Good observation, and commentary. I ..unfortunately don’t think our most rabid gun fanatics have given in to reason.. I envision them in a giant gun-vault or bunker (aka ‘group’ ), oiling, polishing, and reloading their weapons … and having created an echo chamber so loud they simply can’t hear us. Or, maybe that hearing’s gone from proximity to guns
I’ve debated with these type for decades, often greatly outnumbered. They will not give an inch. Their manhood and ego are so tied to their guns - to admit even moderate restrictions are reasonable appears to carve into their very being..
I’m sure hanging on to this trump-train has been difficult for them. I mean, here they are, espousing to be intelligent enough to consider themselves atheist or agnostic - yet cheering on a rabid presidential administration gobbling up those rights - while supposedly solidifying their ‘right to be armed as well as our soldiers’…
Novelty, the problem is that the ardent supporters of Trump are the committed (and definitely should be) Evangelicals. The are same ones as who existed under Ronald Reagan, but were called the Moral Majority.
Problem was they were neither moral or a majority. They just made more noise and gaslighted the country through their noise and their banter.
Trump supporters are the same. They know how to manipulate the media to direct and misdirect their message. They are very accomplished at this. By controlling what the media and the country is talking about, they actual achieve their ends in plain sight as everybody is looking the other way.
Reagan was the racist genius who used welfare Queen to start the division. and their beat goes on, but not in a hippy lovefest way
@gigihein Yeah, I've often wondered why some dem didn't clap back with the fact that the "welfare queen who drove up in a Cadillac to pick up her welfare check" .....that caddie was 15 yrs old and she and her children were living in it cause they were homeless. The GOP has always been very clever at painting images that "catch fire" in the minds and imaginations of the masses.
@Lavergne. the phenomrnon for which you speak was known by Sociologists as "hidden poverty". That is to say, persons in poverty invested all their economic resources (i.e. their welfare check) into something like a cadillac in order to appear from the outside like they were successfully participating in the American experience.
Often times they would do this at the expense of rent and/or a place to live, sacrificing food and other necessities to perpetuate the myth. Items like cadillacs were seen as status symbols within their community and by having such, they felt owning one elevated their status within this community. Even if they lacked anything beyond the car.
Its a complicated social behavior that is experienced at all socio-economic levels (keeping up with Jones). But the Welfare Queen was singled out because they were recieving social assistance and Republicans do not loke the idea of helping out anyone beyond themselves.
@Lavergne I work in Socisl services and hear SW complain woman have their nails done. I told her for the same reason a lot of women do it even when they cznt really afford it...it makes them feel good. Our county has lowest paid social workers in the state. The freeholderswould rather not have one, but pretty sure it's ewuired to get money in the county. I just learned a few days ago we gave 48 000 back to state in a grant for us to pay home health aides for clients who don't meet criteria for other services, especially those under 60. And we got it because a new client was bed ridden, spied for medicaid which takes z few months. Of course his brother is high up in county and our county administrator gave us the referral. that's when we found out it was money we got that no one ever bothered to set it up for us to use it. but now it was done in 4 days. I am happy for the outcome...
Novelty, I really liked your bio line, "I'm here mostly because i can't afford therapy." but I don't have enough points to look at your profile. I think that sucks, because I too, can't afford therapy.
Early point amass quickly. Here are a couple more.
@CallMeDave , thanks man, good luck with people calling you David, I mean, Dave. Shit. Dave.
here is apoint
I have enough points now, thank you all. Especially you Novelty!
@Novelty That's funny, I knew I wasn't accurate saying you couldn't afford it. But I thought it worked better because i didn't have enough points to look at anything. And I really did like the tag line. Thank you for helping me out. Ever thought about moving to the midwest? (You seem nice.)
no better therapy than hanging where there are like minded people.Less headbanging is required.
