Just a wild, maybe crazy, thought/hypothesis here BUT, given the news of a Black Hole seen expelling matter/light or whatever recently could it not a possibilty that a 'black-hole', like any other object, gathers in so much material, etc, and compresses it that it merely reaches a point where the compressed matter exerts such pressure that it seeks the path of least resistance, i.e. the 'polar' regions, to relieve the pressure and 'escape?'
After all, what we see in the Cosmos now IS something that has happened literally 10's, 100's or even 1,000's of light years ago and we see things mostly in the dimensions that our still, somewhat 'primative' brains can encompass?

I saw the picture. Was it expelling material? I thought that was the corona of light flowing into the black hole?

That maybe so, BUT it also closely resembles material/s being ejected from a small aperture under extremely high pressures and forces, does it not?

@Triphid True, but common knowledge has material only flowing into a black hole with nothing escaping due to intense gravitational pull?

@t1nick Yes but is not this 'common knowledge' simply theorizing at its best since we truly know very little at all about 'black holes' any way?
After all, it WAS once 'common knowledge' that the Earth was at the centre of the Universe and the Sun orbited the Earth.
We now know for certain that 'common knowledge' was 100% incorrect, don't we?

@Triphid
our science has come a long way since the Geocentric model was around. Do you have a particular reasoning for questioning the extant science other than desiring to question science in general.

@t1nick I don't actually 'question' science as such, BUT I do often sit and think about the theories, etc, that are put forth, etc, etc.
I suppose my enquiring mind is the reason that I don't take things at 'face' value, I prefer to delve into things, seek possible alternatives/reasons/possibilities, etc.
For example, as a 15 year old teenager at High School in the 60's I once offered up a theory/hypothesis that when the planet Earth was forming a smaller proto-planet, sharing the same orbit may have collided with the Earth thus creating what we now see as being the Moon.
Yes my theory was laughed BUT over the last 20+ years or so I have seen repeatedly that my High School Theory was more than a mere joke BUT a big possibility and a probability as well.
So, I WILL continue to question and query as I see fit because to NOT do so, IMO, makes me just another human sheep.

@Triphid Not asking you not to think. Just what evidence you have at your disposal to question the prevailing theiry.

@t1nick Well, anything compressed into a smaller area/space WILL eventually try to find the weakest/easiest escape route, e.g. pump and compress water into a metal container for long enough and the pressure of the water WILL find the easiest route to release that pressure.
While working on the railways back in 1987 we decided to test a compressed air tank from a Diesel Locomotive that was due to be scrapped as an experiment.
ALL possible normal outlets, the relief valve, joins, etc, were welded tight and we pumped air from our Industrial sized Compressor into the tank for 38.5 hours non-stop and the Compressor output was rated and measured at 60 Atmospheres per hour, ( 60 x 14.5 pounds per square inch).
We fully expected to see the tank explode BUT at the 38.49 hours point it literally found the weakest and easiest escape point, about the size of ,22 caliber bullet in the 3/4" solid steel side and a huge jet of escaping air erupted and blew some 20 feet across the open ground.
Yes, we also added water mixed with dye and White Oil into the tank but only to make it easier to see where, if the pressure escaped, it originated from.
Ergo, if that happens at a 'mere' 60 Atmospheres of pressure over a 38.5 hour period to a 3/4" plate steel cylinder professional made then what happens to billions of tons of gas and materials compressed into a 'black hole?"

@Triphid
In my understanding it does escape on the other side of the singularity. Intetesting experiment, similar to one on mythbustets, but they did the opposite, implode.

@t1nick Well, my understanding is that have an object implode first one needs to EXTRACT everything from within, including air, is that not so?

@Triphid true
