IT IS THE ECONOMY STUPID
LOOK AT THIS FRESH NEWS OF TODAY, MAY 2, 2019
Don't waste time on democratic candidates who cannot win against Trump. Biden, Bernie cannot win. Do not throw money, time and energy on these ponies who think they would be king. These are old wood and are not firing anyone's imagination at large like Obama or Regan did.
This time is not for weak hearted and gentlemen and nice ladies. Trump is dirty and he will butcher weak democratic opponents on the debate stage and outside - that conservatives will celebrate, make memes and sing songs of another historic victory for decades to come - like they did with Reagan.
We have to know our strengths and weaknesses. Like in baseball, there is a time to hit and there is a time to duck. Our hitters are lousy. I want to even suggest to wait it out until 2024. LOL
do you really think, with your 2 party system, that it makes any difference which puppet gets elected?
obama gave the banks & wall st as much or more than they could have extracted for a repug prez & the middle-class continued to shrink.
Well, the cycle of growth started under Obama, and it has actually slowed down since Trump took over.
Obama took us from the verge of economic collapse to a strong economy.
Trump inherited Obama's growing economy and tried to take credit for it, but as stated above his policies have slowed down economic growth, nto just in the U.S., but worldwide.
Past president used deficit spendign to help grow the economy. Trymp's deficit spendign almos tentirely goes to the rich, and the economic growth has slowed, because his defricit spending is nto geared to stimulate the economy.
It is easy to have a strong economy when your predecessor did all the work. Chances are Trump wil fuck things up, liek he did with so many of his businesses.
Unfortunately this argument does not sell with voters, it may convince economists. GWH Bush ruined the economy, Clinton built it back. GW Bush ruined it again and squandered the money and resources on wars and churches, Obama built it back again and now Trump is enjoying riding it again..... These are all truths but the public sees only one thing - ECONOMY IS GOOD.
So, No but a good try.
@Tiramisu Yeah, most people don't realize it generally takes about two years for economic policies to actually steer the economy, one year for companies to plan and adjist to new polcy and another for those adjustments to be recorded.. They just giove credit to whomever is currently in office without considering whether or not they are really responsible.
Why support a candidate who stole every single idea they have directly from Bernie (which you can easily prove by going to YouTube & seeing decades of his speeches!)
And money raised is a crap indicator of anything, unless you plan on selling your vote, or taking $$ to not vote?
Stealing is a common practice in politics.
This keeps coming up. There are many parts of the economy that aren't doing so well. This is all about the propaganda machine convincing people it is so. And even if half of it were true, all the money in the world won't protect any of us from the degradation of the earth's ecosystem. The air. water, and food is getting more and more polluted and at a faster rate under the dirty man's policies. You can't promote the fossil fuel industry along with Monsanto and Dow chemical's pesticides and tell me with a straight face that the economy is doing well as the market place is increasing the death rate of all creatures and the extinction rate, which includes the human race. 76,000 coal miners have died over the past 50 years from black lung and more are dying than ever before and many at a younger age. Trump wants to deregulate the coal industry, which will increase the deaths and the rate. Anyone for glass of coal runoff water?
All these arguments will not sell unfortunately. It is the economy in general. It is the news, the perception that matters. People think it will be worse to change horses when we are riding ok. Most people are not deeply analytical. They consume headlines, That is why headlines sell. Pundits do not decide where the votes will go.
@Tiramisu I think the biggest mistake that people who think has made is to give credit that others are doing the same...not true at all...you are correct...using logic and facts, stats, etc. seems to be the correct way but obviously not working...we are a changed world where brevity, headlines, repetition (even if they are false), works...our media drives decisions whether they mean to or not (although I suspect they know it all too well)...the only way to win is to use the same tactics with someone willing and able to use social media, headlines, etc. and perhaps even dirty tactics...
We progressives and democrats have become policy wonks, nerds boring and have forgotten how to be inspirational leaders. E.g. Biden, Bernie, Hillary. These should never run for president. They should make way for young leaders, Mentor them, show them the way. Al Gore was wise. He has stayed away.
@Tiramisu I am glad to turn the reins over to a younger and more progressive group...I have done my part since 1972 when 18 year olds first got to vote...I am ready to watch and support the best candidate with donations from my beach side retirement...ha ha
