Any Presidential candidate would be committing political suicide to state s/he was atheistic.
In the UK avoiding any mention of god is the default position.
Churchil was an atheist and an Anglican. This might seem paradoxical but pretty much the norm for a PM.
It's gone so ridiculously far in the other direction here that to correct the course might eventually mean more and more openly atheist candidates and officials cashing in on the backlash.
