I have read thousands of books over the years and this includes both the bible and Tolkien's Hobbit LOTR series... If we had to have a religion in the world I would rather it be based on the latter because as a moral compass it is a far better guide... Evil is easy to distinguish and instead of taking the easy way out those under the influence of evil they try to save instead of murdering them... There is no cannibalism in LOTR except by Orcs, Gollum, and Trolls and different races put aside any disagreements to work towards a common good.... War is in defense and not for economic gain... You don't get that from the bible...
"Kill them with death." Rev 2:23
This is awesome. I'm stealing it for my own personal use. Thanks, God.
The best religion I've read in a fiction is from The Last Stormlord - series by Glenda Larke.
You have to commit one small act of kindness to a stranger, helping someone you don't know, every day.
You can't stack it up. You can't buy your gods favor with money. You can't please him/her by building gaudy temples. You can't impress him/her by murdering people for any reason. You can't just help yourself, friends or family. etc.
You worship your god with good deeds, period.
As blogs, tweets and other devices replace books, we should look forward to a transformation of religion in our lifetime.
The real question is which electronic communication device will substitute for the mind control function that religious holy books express.
FAUX News has been so far...
There is much hipocracy and falseness, in the global phenomenon that is religion.,.
I personally, would love to live in a reality such as, Tolkien's LOTR...or Lucas' Star Wars were the Force is a real thing....
Alas, the reality is, is... we are just tiny bugs, in a cosmic anthill.
Reminds me of religious people lamenting the sex and violence in "Game of Thrones". It's like they've never read the bible at all.
Evidently those people have never read in the Old Testament where it says if you have a disobedient son you should kill him.
The Bible say
"If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and who, when they have chastened him, will not heed them, then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city, to the gate of his city. And they shall say to the elders of his city, “This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.” Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones; so you shall put away the evil from among you, and all Israel shall hear and fear." (Deuteronomy 21:18–21
