Robert Heinlein: Marriage:
Sovereign ingredient for a happy marriage: Pay cash or do without. Interest charges not only eat up a household budget; awareness of debt eats up domestic felicity.
Another ingredient for a happy marriage: Budget the luxuries first!
And still another-- See to it that she has her own desk--then keep your hands off it!
And another--In a family argument, if it turns out you are right--apologize at once!
Because marriage advice from a 3-peter (first marriage lasted one year, second ended in divorce after 15 years, he dumped her after she became an alcoholic, 3rd one lasted) is So Valuable. Thanks!
Truth comes from everywhere. Even from those who had to learn the hard way.
I'd agree in part with the first thing. A lack of financial stability can inject undue stress into a relationship/partnership.
The rest is a mess. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Geoffrey51. “Who really gives a shit what Robert Heinlein says?”
Why can't she get her own desk if she wants one?
This was advice to young men. The important bit is about privacy: "keep your hands off it."
@Jacar I know it was written in a different time when women were not making their own money to buy their own things...as well, most financial things were handled by men...now, it would not be considered prudent since both men and women should know the finances. I share the information with my spouse except perhaps how much I spend on shoes...
