Sorry for doubting your post HC but I just had to check the truth of this oddity. Well here it is in The Lancet no less... [thelancet.com]
It says it was used for warming ppl up as well as curing drowning. Well it's Winter over here so I might have to borrow yours. I'll give it a good wash before returning it
