Who else here lives on a basic income?
I surprise everyone when I tell them I'm a retired public school teacher on a fixed income....and I own a tesla S.
Yes; my income is around $50K a year...
So....I live frugally....and drive deluxe.
It's worth it to me.
I'm also asking because of the way people judge others on how much money they make.
How many of us are retired, or disabled?
I'm disabled.
@PatrickKerr Me too!
I make so little I don't have to file taxes. I paid off my house years ago, and I have no loan. I have quite a lot in a trust account, but that is for retirement. My cost of living is very low. I'm cheap as hell, and I still wear clothes I had from HS! The traditional way to have money is to SAVE it!
My income is basically rental collections, capital gains, dividends, increased value of stocks and bonds, investments... So, it's more than basic...
I work full time as a recycling sorter. It doesn't pay much.
I'm asking because I am on a basic income called ODSP (Ontario Disability Support Program)
@Ms_McSteven I get 1100$ a month. Drug plan ( not all drugs) and dental.
I have 1350 for 3 of us. My salvation for a living really well is that I own a small house, no mortgage, very efficient in energy, pay 100% of the CC bill every month, buy EVERYTHING on plastic and get the 1 to 5% back, have no debts, it is against my religion to owe anyone anything. I am a master at finding free stuff, truly free, what is offered as free costs usually premium.
Patric, what I really need to know how did you swing dental? My few teeth give me a lot of grief, indeed and I fly to the Czech Republic where I have free medical or Costa Rica where I have a terrific dentist.
I still have capped or original 12 teeth and I compute all the time cost of nursing them along against getting them yanked and replacing with a clappity clap teeth
My income is none of your business.
You did have an option of not answering.....
I am entitled to state my opinion respectfully.
@Bigwavedave Could not have put it better myself.
I get $1400 a month in Social Security benefits, so that is my basic income. I live pretty simply and frugally, always have. I won't say how much I have in savings and retirement funds, because that's nobody's business, but I have enough between what I saved and inherited, that I can supplement my basic income with another $20-25K per year for as long as I'm likely to live. So I am very fortunate on that front. I will never be a high roller or a good target for golddiggers, but I will have financial security as long as SS and Medicare are around.
I get the feeling, from having been on these boards a while now, that on Agnostic we have quite a range of members as far as financial status. Lots of people who regularly take expensive vacations to lots of people who are just scraping by. Reflective of America in general, I suppose.
@Ms_McSteven Hey! I've got a broken ass!
@Ms_McSteven Not surprising.Some of that could be prudent self-protection, on the part of the well-off members here since the older members tend to be targets of dating site scammers.
