-The Bible. It’s the Word of God. The Truth.
Me: Written by MEN, over thousands of years, translated dozens of times, parts removed...
-But inspired by GOD!
Me: But written by people. And it’s not true. At best, it’s mythology or allegory.
-What? No, it’s TRUE!
Me: Prove it.
-I don’t have to, I BELIEVE it.
🙄

And if I told you I had a house worth $500,000, but I will sell it to you for $100,000, would you believe that, or would you want to see it first? It is interesting just how quickly they become doubting Thomases when the conversation turns to real-world things.

"But there must be a god because everything has an opposite, so there must be an opposite for the devil."

I didn't bother arguing, since the person using this one was clearly too stupid to understand that as I don't believe God exists it's not very likely I believe the devil exists either, and it's impossible to argue with anyone that stupid.

The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.

They claim that because the universe is so large and awe-inspiring, there must be a maker . . . . . so then you ask them, well, if it requires a maker, does that not mean that the maker must have a maker, and that maker have a maker, and so on ad infinitum?

Do you mean the Judeo/Christian god ?. I can see a good argument for not believing in it. Just read the first books of the old testament. An obscure middle eastern tribe are chosen by the creator of the universe to be his chosen people and he then helps them to defeat their enemies and take over lands he promised to them.
Actually a polytheistic tribe adopt monotheism whilst in exile in Babylon, possibly taken from Zoroaster and they then use this adopted god to justify their warlike acquisitive behaviour

But they're all so bad...probably pascals wager, since even homer Simpson sees through that one.

Haven’t seen that one. Summarize? Clip?

@TheBeardStays the argument that it is in one's own best interest to behave as if God exists, since the possibility of eternal punishment in hell outweighs any advantage in believing otherwise.

So, you know, just make sure you pick the right god.
