I would eat the puffin and the whale...both sound like they are more "native" to the area foods...
Sounds like you are finding some interesting things to try!
What did you finally decide on?
@thinktwice I didnt eat either, I went to another restaurant and had cod. Puffins mate for life. I didn't feel comfortable and they are under stress.
Paint me green
I'm more concerned about the teriyaki. The Icelandic teriyaki fishing fleet uses vast drift nets to catch hundreds of millions of teriyakis every year, and ecologists have warned teriyaki populations in the North Atlantic have plummeted so low that the species may be beyond the brink and could vanish within a decade.
They have a" special "license for the procurment of endangered species; i can't spell it but i know its popular...might need
a polar bear bag(for left overs).
@BBJong Precisely how they got that license is highly questionable, however. The government Minister for Home Affairs argued that the teriyaki has been a traditional part of Icelandic cuisine since time immemorial (much as the Japanese claimed in order to obtain a license to hunt laufabrauð and Þorramatur), but historians say there is little evidence to support this.
@Jnei how did you come to have the Icelandic alphabet? I'm impressed
@jnei it seems incongruent to me, Iceland has a progressive female , young prime minister. I was told by an eco guide that the whale fleet isnt fishing this year because they didnt have their paperwork in order. The country is in transition from a farming fishing island to eco tourism. I expect the whaling and illegal puffin hunting will die out.
Puffin became popular in Catholic countries as a dish after the Pope declared (seriously) that Puffin was a fish and so could be eaten on a Friday.
Over the following years the fish hating clergy declared many other animals including Beavers, Hares, Manatees and Rabbits to be fish as well.
I’ll bet the Puffin tastes just like chicken
I’m curious about the Minke whale
@haenish1 definitely not eating the whale!
Would not eat any of them, because no doubt they're all probably endangered.
I might eat puffin in a pinch.
The haddock isn’t endangered. At least I hope not!
@Marionville
I recently read several articles claiming that all sea life is more endangered than land mammal life, because the ocean food cycle balance is dangerously close to obliteration.
@AnonySchmoose Yes...but some fish are actually endangered because of overfishing, such as the cod and tuna. I don’t believe the haddock is on this list.
I'm willing to try just about anything.
No cucumber though.
Belch town.
Looking at the menu, I'll just have some breadsticks and a glass of water please.
@ oldfloyd that's what I thought. I went to another restaurant and had cod and scallops
If I was having to choose from that menu...I’d probably not choose puffin because I love smoked haddock. (All Scots love haddock it’s our national fish).
@marionville I am trying to stick to cod and lamb....they eat a lot of fish broth and bread....
I'd eat a puffin before I'd eat Minke whale.
Agree.
That was my thought.
@Beowulfsfriend I heard the whale is horrible. I'm not eating it lol.
@Bigwavedave I wouldn't eat whale, ever - it just doesn't seem right for such a smart creature - but I don't know, humans are omnivores. I saw whale meat in Japan; and, in the Philippines, I did eat monkey (meat, not the brains).
