Is there a secret to having a happy, well-balanced teenager?
I raised 5 siblings, my own three kids, helped with 4 grandkids and still can't figure it all out.
Parents who allow their kids too much freedom seem to have it the worst! That and inconsisent discipline and parents not on the same page.
Going thru a bad time with my 13 yr old grandson its breaking my heart!!!
Its written into biological code. 'Terrible twos' are the first race for freedom, basically from the breast. Next is the teens because they need to exert who they are in the world. Us adults also have the need to keep them safe and so the conflict continues. The gypsy brothers and sisters say let your childrrn roam free, just be there to catch them when they fall. I wish I had the answer, I tried to hold them all too tight for too long.
To be fair to my parents, I think there's only so much a parent can do. Looking back at my teens, I don't think there's a damn thing they could have done. Sometimes "a good life" is a series of coin tosses, and a bunch of them can land "on the wrong side" at first, and on the "good side" later.
The only 100% way is never to have them. All 5 of my imaginary kids were wonderful teenagers (although there was a rough patch with my 4th, the artist, but that only lasted about 2 weeks).
Hope this helps.
So the arbiter who went to club fed after he graduated from college? Good, at least now he's in prison?
@MarkiusMahamius false accusation. She was cleared and awarded restitution, used the money to get her law degree and now works for the southern poverty law center helping to free those falsely jailed. I'm so damned proud of her.
@1of5 thats heart warming. I never heard that part of the story. Maybe your kid who writes and directs documentaries about privileged white kids who redeem themselves after being given a second chance, can do a film on that. After all, i know its really hard to find good subject matter, but when it happens, those tickets sell.
@MarkiusMahamius he's focusing on the victoms, not her, in the film. So doubt it'll do anything but garner a few internationally recognized accolades and raise awareness instead of making a pile of cash. Can't have everything, you know.
There’s such a thing as a happy, well balanced teenager??
I hope so!!! My 13 yr old grandson is going thru a very painful time now. He is on restriction ( deserved for what he did), no phone, no internet and won't get them back for a few weeks.
He stays in his room sleeping I suppose. Only comes out to eat and go to the restroom. He is in counseling but not helping much. He was violent with his father when he got caught stealing, smoking, using drugs, having sex and cutting himself. He was in reform school for 8 days, he threatened suicide!
I'm so worried. Not sleeping well and thinking about him constantly. I love this young man intensely. These behaviors are all new, in the last six months. He began friendship with a few boys much older 17 to 18 to his 13.
My daughter and husband are not rich but doing well. A nice house 40 acres in the country. We raise chickrns, have teo dogs and two resuce horses. Hes lost interest in rverything!
Three of the boys come from poor parents. They are using him and his parents. I'm pretty sure of it.
Sorry for the rant. I don't talk about these things with friends. So I keep them to myself. Sick with worry about this swrry naive 13 yr old boy.
